When all of this went down, my wife said the oil light came on for a minute and then went off. The thermostat housing burst and the coolant ran out. She drove for a couple miles
Ticking now, never did it before...

well i would first check the oil. if it is ok, ie no coolant, good level, etc. Then i would check compression.
If it will run, and the compression is good, then you could do couple things to check/fix the lifter tick. But make sure the rest of the engine isn't bad.
MY question is kind of answered, because it runs correct? that how you know there is lifter noise? So fix the thermostat housing. And give it an oil change. If the tick gets worse or better in the next 50 miles. we can go from there. But verify oil pressure, and oil to the head.
Will do, thanks. I need to cut a gasket to keep the housing from leaking... Once that is done, I'll drop the oil and see if theres coolant in it, right? Where can I find the values of the compression of the cylinders?
Do people on this forum buy project cars? I feel like walking away from the whole thing!! And just weeks after paying it off...
I think the car has less problems than you believe.
Compression should range before 130-150. Do it wet if needed. And its more about being even across the 4 cylinders than being a set amount..
The oil is to see if coolant is in there, as well as a fresh change. Use something GOOD, to help the lifter tick..
