That resistor "fools" your ECU to make it think that the outside air temp is much colder then it actually is, the ECU compensates by slightly increasing fuel to the engine. Colder air has more oxygen in it so the engine needs slightly more fuel to run properly. That's why cars are a bit harder on fuel in winter.

ok i see what your sayin now...

so does this thing pose any risk except the fact that my car doesnt have but three gears when its in and some idiot lights come on?

i mean if it works then it works i still wanna see how much of difference it will make on the 1/4 mile anyways

When i put mine in, i didnt really notice a difference, no lights came on either (wasn't the same one as your tho) but see if it makes a difference anyways, got nothing to lose, and it wont damage your engine.

i dont see how a resistor could make my transmission only use 3 of the 4 gears though. it seems to pull harder on the top end and slightly faster on the bottom end.

i know for sure though for 5 minutes after i installed it, the car ran like ****, like it felt bogged down almost, and then all of a sudden i heard a click and i could tell a difference at that point and now it seems better than before.

Maybe because it thinkls the air is cooler, it keeps the choke open and you have an auto trans it doesn't shift because it thinks the motor is cold?

Yea, 4th (or overdrive whatever you wanna call it) doesnt come on when the engine is cold or when its extremely cold outside, maybe this is why you only stay in 3rd

Choke on a FI vehicle LOL LOL LOL. Man what a sucker for buying a $30 resistor. people will never learn, oh yeah make sure you get a back O2 sensor for when you burn out yours out, also another set of spark plugs for when you get all that carbon build up on them and they foul out.

who ever said that i was running this resistor on the IAT everyday anyways?, hell, if it gives me a half second or second better time at the track then ill use it there, i dont see much harm that could be done from occasional runs down a 1/4 mile.

& ok im out thirty bucks, which i probably would have pissed away anyways on some other stupid **** i didnt need like most people probably do

OK OK OK, it doesn't litterally have a choke..my bad

but this resistor is fooling the engine to think it's cold, that was my point
