Rockauto.com has the timing belt kits as well and IIRC they are cheaper too.

hey group. since we are on this timing belt kick i had a question. does anyone know if there is a much better quality timing belt available other than the ones that are oem. maybe a little more protection for the long haul in relation to having to worry less about breakage.

Almost any reputable company that makes a timing belt will be better then OEM. The factory ones just weren't designed to deal the cold temps most of us experience with our cars during the winter. Even my serpentine belt had to be replaced at 30,000 km because it was so badly cracked.

I have a 1.5 SOHC engine, so would the timing belt kit for the 1.6 DOHC work on my engine?

      That is a definite no.
I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.

Not in all cases tho... Some cars have Gates belts right from the factory.

I was told by chevy customer service, that its up to whoever the supplier was at that given moment on the assembly line.

I can pry the rubber seal away right at the top front of the cover and if the belt is in the right spot, You can see the gates logo in the circle, and "Powergrip" in big bold letters.

Not that I'm promoting going over the recommended inspection and replacement.

I'd just take a look and try to see what kind of belt you have. If yours is a no name or name you never heard of, I'd probably go for early replacement.

Sorry to hijack the thread, not sure if the belt is the same for the 1.5, looks like the post above answered.

The dealership or other local aftermarket parts dealer. It's impossible for me to tell since that engine is unavailable in North America.
