      Timing Belt Ticking Noise

I just Finished putting everything back together after doing my second timing belt change on my 07 Swift. I started it up and there is a consistant ticking noise. It is pretty loud but the car is running smooth, idles just under 900 rpm, revs smooth. Everything else seems okay. I talked to a friend of a friend that works in the garage at a chevy dealer in ottawa, and he said that it sounds like I am out by one tooth. I should tear it apart and start over. Now I have searched around and I found another guy had a similar problem. By the sounds of it he just drove on and it gradually went away. I think the reasoning was the water pump making the noise. I'm just wondering what my next step is. What are other peoples experiences?

Just and up date. I did an oil change while I was trying to decide what to do. I started it up and instantly the ticking is gone. It went from loud enough I could hear it inside the house, to no noise at all. I changed the valve cover gasket at the same time as doing the timing belt because it was pissing oil. My number 4 spark plug hole was full of oil. But taking off the valve cover shouldn't have changed anything? Now I am just curious why changing the oil made the ticking go away.

i was going to tell you it was most likely a lifter.. but sounds like the added oil hydrated it.

if it was off by any teeth you would have been in trouble now

I have had a ticking noise for the long time, the lifters and other pieces can be loud, just one of those things, though when I had my timing belt done, another pulley needed to be changed out, maybe something was loose or tapping against something?

at least it runs good now and the ticking is gone ;p
