I bought a 2010 Aveo with 99,300 miles on it. I'm looking to get the timing belt changed and doing the water pump at the same time. The quote I got from a shop was $1100 for this. Is this about right for this work?

That seems a bit high. I paid around $800 for my 2009 (same engine as yours) at the mechanic and I'm in California. I would shop it around to a few other mechanics first and see what they say.
If you are mechanically inclined, I hear it's not that difficult to do the work yourself. I chose not to do it myself so that someone else would be on the hook if something got screwed up, however.
that's ridiculous. I would search for your own parts. the water pump is actually more difficult to do than the timing belt because you have to remove the timing belt, then the rear cover before you can remove the water pump.
if this has never been done on your car, get the new belt, tensioner, roller along with the water pump. I paid $16 for my water pump, $20 for the belt, when I changed mine. the roller & tensioner (rockauto.com) are not much more. the rest is labor. timing needs set and the water pump snugs up the timing belt.
once to that point its just putting it back together.
if I do it id charge around $600ish.
try to find a price in that range. or labor for $500-600 with you buying parts.
im in FL.

Thanks for the replies. I'll do some shopping around.

I just had this done in September and I paid a little over $600. The work was done by a reputable repair shop that charges a midrange shop rate. Someone is trying to scam you! I've had extensive work done this year at the same shop since I bought my '04 as is and it was in big need of TLC.The highest price I paid was to have the front end completely rebuilt for $1120. I had a new exhaust system and new tires for $900. I know...I could have bought a new car
I just finished the job on an 06 and it took about 2 hours of actual work. I had a little over a hundred and ten bucks in parts (OE Daewoo) including coolant. I'd love to do them all day long for a grand a pop labor if I could
