      Timing off?

Hi all. Have a question someone in here may be able to answer. I am currently working on a friends 2008 Aveo. It runs decent but idles like crap. Ive changed the spark plugs, coil, intake hose( had a crack in it). Nothing helped. I then decided to check to see if the timing marks are aligned. It looks like it's off a tooth. Can someone verify? Thanks in advance. Also, if it's off by one tooth, how difficult to get it back in time? Name: IMG_2716.jpg

Judging by the marks, it looks like the timing belt it in the correct position. Crappy idle can be a million other things. Main culprit on the aveos is a dirty IAT sensor and dirty throttle body.

Thanks for the input. To me it looks like one of the cams is pointed slightly downward and off one tooth but I assume you guys change these all the time so I wont argue. I replaced the intake air temp sensor and sprayed about 1/2 can of carb cleaner through the throttle body but didn't disassemble anything.

Do you have an ODB realtime data stream reader? It's usually better to diagnose instead of hanging on a bunch of parts.

Just a quick update to this post in case anyone has the similar problems with idling issues that don't make sense. I hate when people post and don't give a resolution so here it is. Yes the timing was off ( Ray Charles can see from the pic above) the Chevrolet dealer who originally installed the belt said the tensioner failed/is failing causing the timing to be off slightly. I think they didn't install the belt correctly to begin with. According to my friend she said the idling issue started right after she got the belt changed. Not sure why she didn't return it. They charged her 58 for the tensioner and no labor. Thanks and good luck to all of you who own one of these jewels. At least it gets good gas mileage.

The amount of money you spend at the dealer the tensioner should have been included. Dealers suck
