      Tips for timing belt replacement

      Hi guys and gals!
My 2010 aveo hit the big 100k. Since I have extra time on my hands, I have been taking care of vehicle maintenance. I replaced the front disc brakes, rotors and pads, cleaned the throttle body, replaced spark plugs again, new air filter, new O2 sensor, the easy stuff.
My AC compressor went, so I put a another one in.

Now it appears that my next big project is going to be the timing belt!!
Any tips? Anything that will make my life easier? I have my hanes manual, watched the you tube videos and understand each step. I have the tools.

I plan on taking pics, which is one tip.

      Anything else?

Just make sure to replace the water pump, tensioner, and idler while you are in there.

Water pump isn't in the timing loop starting from the 09+ US models.

Personally, I paid somebody to do the timing belt and related parts on my 09. I could have done it myself, but my reasoning was more pragmatic.

I could pay someone (that does this type of work on a regular basis) to do it and their insurance pays out/fixes the car if they screw it up. Or I do it myself, save the money, but end up hosed if I mess it up.

Obviously, I decided paying someone else to take on the risk was worth it for me. YMMV

      Okay, I did it!!
4 hours ish, the stupid crankshaft bolt was a bitch and a half to break loose.
There is a little triangle and a line that assists in lining everything up. I replaced tensioner and idler, also replaced the serpentine belt while I was in there.

I had already put a new water pump in when I replaced the AC compressor, so that was done. I still have the water pump from the kit, so I will keep it just in case I ever need it for whatever reason.

It was a beautiful day to work on it. All in all, not bad

      I feel accomplished!

      Good day, forum,
somehow I could see posts only about timing belt change, though in the manual it is said it should be changed after 160k km. but after 80k km the manual says to do "Power steering pump accessory drive belt replacement." (page 11-5). What is the experience with these belts, when to change them? Did someone had a "bad" experience with these belts (belts' failure / extensive wear out, for example)?
Also I struggle to understand the following: "Automatic transmission fluid and filter change (severe service only)". So, to change the fluid, or not? What is "severe service only"? Saskatchewan winter is severe or not?
      thank you.

Hi, I have not changed it yet, COVID stopped my vehicle (job) and I have time to look for options. Some mechanics say I should change it, others - belt is looking good, don't bother. So, I "think"...
