Well, I haven't pulled the trigger on any of these deals yet... a replacement engine, I might be interested. I will check with the wife, and get back to you. I will keep trying to find it, so I can call the guy, if she is interested.
its just a craigslist ad..

I want the car, but he wont sell it without the engine.. If you want the engine, i will gladly go check it out and get the rest of it for myself.
WOW, your machine shops stink! I took my fiance's head to a local parts store/machine shop and they shaved it and reset the valves for under $200.
I got a quote after I was half done from the local yard that had a complete motor for just over $600 and was ~60K I think.
From the sounds of it your best choice might be to rebuild. Do you have any experience or mechanical skills? If so, you could save yourself several hundreds by doing the removal and installation and possibly the rest of the teardown. Also, if the cylinder walls aren't scored or out of round you only need to hone the cylinders to brake the glaze so the new rings can seat. This can be tedious as all the other little things but they are where you save the money too.
Yeah, I have built a few engines in my time... before the three shoulder surgeries, the crushed T-12 vertebrae, the degenerative disk disease... I just cannot do the things I used to do. That being said, being a computer consultant/tech, and the regional solution provider for Quick Books has it's advantages. My mechanic is a client, and he speaks barter.
I have an 05 aveo and I had my thermostat blow up on me before and I managed to get a metal one at auto zone which was very suprising. And it was only about 30 bucks
Update: Parts are all ordered, I may have gone overkill, but if I am saving the price of buying her another car, a little extra care is worth it.
All parts are AC/Delco, or GM (surprise to me, there is a bit of a difference!)
NEW cylinder head, complete
Rings/Bearings
Gasket set
Oil and water pumps
Timing belt and tensioner
EGR valve
Aluminum thermostat housing and stat
Head bolts
All water hoses
Anybody care to guess how much for all the parts? Yes, if I am asking, then you know I think I got a pretty good deal. I've known the parts guy for about 17-18 years, and got pretty good prices I think.
$500 ?
maybe not?
$501
do i go to the showcase?
