Thought I would share some old notes I have gathered pertaining to engine management, all sourced from TIS for MY 2006.

This documents the basic stuff like the MAP sensor specs, crank and cam sensor types, the crank reluctor type (60-2 (x58 tooth), injector info, ECU info, pin outs, pin voltages, etc. in the event I ever want to tinker with custom engine management options down the road. Nothing earth shattering, just the basics as they would apply to any aftermarket management system. As I learn more I will add to it. With any luck this may be of help to those exploring custom engine management.

Here is a link to the file:

back on the forum today.. sweet. technical candy for me to learn. Thanks, man! By the way just to preface this whole thread after your input, what I now understand from what you are saying is that its not about the piggyback controller and the 'locked in tuning contracts', but more about re-creating the controller. Then troubleshooting would be perhaps way easier, like say with a laptop in the car, gathering data while its driving.

hey 06T200, with all this said, doesn't this really make the old, carbeurated, mechanical turbo just as fascinating as all this new digital vehicular control? If I were to be imaginarially financially fat, I'd have another one of these cars with a carbeurated mechanical turbo, no fly-by-wire throttle, etc...

speed density, BSFC, all these new terms, but i think i'm understanding what you are saying. by the way i don't care about full instrumentation.. what is required is a reasonable start to me, probably a phone can do the rest anyways

Well that is where the tuning theory is headed as a whole - not just aveos.. Don't take my word for it though, crap I am just a Chevy guy, here is Steve Dinan schooling on the topic, should make more sense.

However, don't go looking for that bolt in Aveo ECM anytime soon.

now theres a start if i've seen one.. 'as good as stock' ... i'd start with that, it relates to stock aveo owners who think their car is a granny car, well if you 'find a granny owned stock '06 aveo listen up' .. you know what i mean.. hehe

edit: and get a manual for gosh sakes, you know this old motor, it needs high rpm's to perform propa

seriously folks, if i knew this old e teck two 'tugger was gonna do this well...
i would have breaked it in on the dyno.. instead i did it the olde waye... i broke in the cams ... then i broke in the rings .... etc.. i sware thats why my motor is better than most .. after that we'll i'm waiting for it to leak, surely somewhere else than that damned valve cover gasket, it has not happened so this car is now promoted to 'really fun car to modify'

Edit June 2017: the power steering rack seals blow

no, 06T200, its up to you... there is a few aftermarket products but these companies .. you see they don't understand the simple car
      the go-cart

after a fast acceleration, does one really care what one is in, or is the 'visibility' more important.. for me i'm all about function first, then comfort, then looks

Freescale/NXP slides from their technical forum, for those that care to roll their own engine management.

just checking in, its been awhile.. nothing new really to report.. in the fall some local shops will be canvassed to see if they would be interested in this project. no point in saying anything until then, except that, I'll drive this baby to Arizona if thats where it needs to go.. still, thats 1500 miles from here. It'd be a fun drive back though...
