USA Header!

I found a guy here in town willing to make a header for the Aveo. He said on the low side it'll be $150, high side $250. He needs the car for an afternoon (I guess going to be using my car) to make the header and see the spacing that needs to be done. The header will be 4-1 to retain a level of backpressure to help with the scavenger effect. I will persue this more after I get back from my trip. I figured I'd start a buzz about this and see what kind of response I get so I can let him know of the demand. And of course we'll dyno the car

I hope the quality is decent. $250 for a custom header is about 50% of what it should be. My guess: new fabricator that doesn't know what he's getting into, and doesn't realize he's undercharging. I expect to see low-grade aluminized steel and poor MIG welding. Be careful!

Oh he knows what he's doing, he's had his own engine building shop for 15 years and has built a lot of his own parts for his car. His price is without any coatings though

if i see a good gain, ill definetly get this header!

There is a shop in a nearby town that I have do all my coatings (both powder and ceramic). I'll try to give them a call monday and find out how much extra that would be

I was just thinking, my car might not be a good test car. I'm thinking this because I have the stock cat removed and replaced it with a highflow cat mounted under the oil pan, so how he pipes mine won't be like other Aveo's are piped, unless everyone would want a highflow cat to go along with it! Of course that would jack up the price :( Or if someone wanted to come to Tulsa (or maybe I could find an Aveo rent-a-car for the weekend)

its going to be a pain in the ass to taylor it for the stock exhaust and probably less gain and if your gonna put a header on you minds as well get an exhaust done because you wont accomplish anything with just the header

well you know i've got my entire exhaust done except for a header

man headers would just set it off for the aveo, i wonder how it would sound?

$250 isn't THAT low. We were building really high quality headers for the 2.0, coming with a 5 year warranty against welds and defects and I was having someone build them for me then selling them for $300-$330. I think the mark up was 30% on my part.

talked to him again today, said he can make it in a weekend with my car as the test model (wont be for a few weeks though since im going out of town). He says he'll use good steel and TIG welding. Also I'm trying to convince him to maybe make a supercharger kit for us, but we'll see how it goes with the header first.

As for ceramic coating, when I got my new phone the number for the place did not transfer over and I cannot find it in the phone book, so next time I'm over that way I'll swing in there and ask (maybe next Monday if I have free time)

What can I say, someone has to to help our little cars get going!

But at least the header will fit any aveo and keep the stock CAT if it can fit yours. We would still like to know if there are any gains.

We're slowly working on it...as with headers. Since you guys seam to have something going we'll probably do the 2.0/1.8 first, then the lanos 1.6, then the aveo wouldnt be hard from the lanos

I went by the shop and they were closed for vacation, i'll try back there in a few days

Be interesting to see some Dyno # from stock to header install what the diffeance would be if it would be worth doing.

there may be a little kink in our header plan here, i may be having to move to michigan in a few weeks, but if I do I will gladly give out the guys number and I may try to get a prototype fabbed up before I leave. I will also try to find a place that will do it in Michigan for a good price so I won't leave everyone completely without options

Added update edit: Found out my grandfather in-law in Michigan has a machine shop that makes car parts! And if I do move to Michigan I'll be living only a few miles from his place. So he might be willing to make us pistons, headers, pulleys, mounts, etc!

:roll: it just means someone isn't marking up their price for mucho profit....is that even a picture of a header of yours? the picture says fullrace and I know a company that does alot of import work thats called fullrace

lol not mine, thats a robot welding that baby. We do alot of work with full-race however (went to school with 90% of their employees growing up) i was just giving an example. and yes, it is very heavy, at close to 50lbs
