Just paint it outside of the engine, as long as the paint is dry it shouldn't go into the engine.

I'd use engine enamel paint, and of course paint it while it's outside the engine. Maybe scuff up the chrome so the paint sticks better.

plasti dip it black, it will hold up to 200 degrees- no sanding necessary

should i still prime it? or nah? I feel like if i rough it up with some sand paper and hit it with some primer and then plasti dip i think it would turn out pretty good? Sound about right?

200 degrees? Engine bays get a little warmer than that do they not?

I hang out on the Cobalt SS forums lately, and people have plasti dipped their valve covers, exhaust tips - you name it. All of which could get hotter than your intake tube ever will. And no need to sand anything. That's the whole point of plasti dip so you can reverse back to original condition. Just make sure surface of clean and definitely dry. First coat light (to let it adhere to the chrome and create the rough surface for the next coat to bond to it).

Either way, I'd go with plasti dip, but then again, my whole car is plasti dipped Aviator Grey (or battleship grey) .

Well then it can withstand more than 200 degrees if it's on an exhaust tip.

I'd have to say so, yes.
