What about rear mount turbo?

Has anyone thought about what a rear mount turbo kit could do for our rides?

For those that might not know, a rear turbo is an idea that some company has come up with..i think STS performance or something.

They mounted a turbo where the muffler goes.
It solves alot of problematic turbocharging issues, the pain with it is running another exhaust sized pipe back to the motor.

The thing with the Aveo is its short, so that helps.

Is there room for 2 exhaust pipes under the car?

Is there a safe boost level for a stock 1.6 or do they definately need forged pistons? or is it not recomended at all?

If you will take a look under your rear you will see space is a limitation. There was another member that looked into the remote turbo (Daniel I think) and found the spacing confines didn't make it possible.

Be creative though, I'm sure that the right person with the right skills and tools can make anything happen.

Yep it was me, i even talked to STS about making a kit for the aveo but they quoted me $3995. So I was like screw that, I could peice together one for around $500 (and I did piece it together). But yes there ended up being some signifigant space rescrictions, but if you can make it work it would rock

I tried it too using a WRX TD04L turbo. I could probably make it work if I removed the spare tire and placed the intake inside of the car, but that would require cutting a 2.5" hole in the spare tire well of the car and the noise would get annoying after a while.

Yeah I had those same thoughts, and i also decided i like to have a spare tire on trips

Since I have my interior ripped out in the back of my car right now, I noticed that in the back rear corners there are vents that go outside to the air.

What if someone brought the intake tube up under the bumper and inside through one of those vents?? Or up through the spare tire well and split to go out both sides?

Think the intake has to be that hidden away?

The F body guys are only shielding them and keeping them tucked up under the bumper.

As long as the thing is tucked up and shielded from major water spray, I dont think there should be any major issues, no?

that was my theory, but there isnt enough room for the piping
