who wants to turbo their 1.6?
i need serious answers to get this ball rolling. i see alot of people doing engine swaps to get their cars boosted, and give themselves larger platforms to jump from. but for the novice like myself, who doesnt want the hassle of a whole engine swap, i want a turbo for the 1.6.
WE CAN DO THIS! HERES HOW....
their is a local performance shop who does their own Fab work. I believe they'd be interested in cornering the market, and i intend to go in and donate my car for the prototyping of EVERYTHING. Turbo, Meth Kits, Exhaust, Cams, etc. if they make it race wise, im going to get them to do an Aveo series for it. everything will be Bolt-On with no fab work on our parts, because they will be doing all the leg work.
I need to know how many of us are serious about this, and really want to order some kits when they are put out. I cant go in half cocked with promises of millions of orders from all over the world, mostly because it'll make me look like a dick when it doesnt happen, but it also isnt realistic. i know there was a guy here awhile ago that promised the same thing, but last i knew his kits were never tested.

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
I will buy anything they make lol

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
count me in, would it come with an ecu-tune or piggy back system? thats a biggie for me.

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
I'm in for a complete low boost kit the whole thing has to be bolt , plug and play so it must have to have some engine management provision with it , not blow the engine out in the first 10000 miles and not require a major forged piston rebuild before it can be safely used.
I stress complete including required exhaust components.

im not sure what that means entirely, but they are a pro shop. assuming that a ECU-tune is the best option, then im also assuming thats what they will do.
im counting 5 others interested, not a bad figure to walk in their with! :)

im told 5 or 6 PSI is a safe boost to run without doing a complete engine rebuild. that equates to roughly 50 or 60 HP. like i said, they do their own fab work, and my car would be their frankenstein. by the time they're done, their wont be any bugs or fab for you to work out yourself.

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
Im in...ive been looking into a 2.0l swap but its expensive a decent bolt on turbo kit for the 1.6 would be great.
also anything suspension/brake wise im in.

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
would this kit be safe for the auto trans

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
Sucks I have the 1.6 EcoTec so it wouldnt work anyways lol.

because the 04-08 aveos have a 1.6L etec engine and 09+ have a 1.6L ecotec engine.

im not a mechanic, so i fail to see why a turbo wouldnt work on both engines, provided the turbo was tuned to 1.6L
-
Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
Displacement has nothing to do with it. As long as the Ecotec and the Etec head has the same style exhaust flange, it will work for both. The tuning on the other hand..........
-
Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
if i can get extra funds I'm in.
-
Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
the heads are different from each other. yea its the same displacement, but the way the timing is setup on each engine is different i dont know how, but if you look at most of the inline 4 gm puts in there cars have the ecotec name on them.
-
Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
Although there are some similarities, the EcoTec is a completely different configuration. I think it would also require a different manifold. Idk how many differences there are though.
-
Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
it will work
They just slaped ecotech name on to the old etec
It's not a real ecotec
-
Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
I could be wrong but I think the main difference is in the block , the E-TECH II 16V is a cast iron block and the ECOTECH is aluminium , I'd also assume tuning differences but this would be no more of an issue for iether engine as both would need re-tuning/chiping for a turbo anyway.
Just my 5c's worth .

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
I'm not so sure that's all thats different, the 09 has a different throttle body and position. Not positive but I think even the cams are different.

Hi--wouldn't suprise me atall , I think the difference may be attributable to drive by cable on the E-TECH II and by wire on the ECOTECH , here's a pic of the E-TECH II , it shows the plastic intake manifold and throttle body more or less OK.

clik to enlarge.
I wish I had a damn manual , the Ruski pirated GM/Deawoo Europe manual link only covers up to the 1.4 motor.

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
Different Injectors too. Overall the differences are substantial enough.

Etech uses drive by wire.

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
Etec II was only Drive by wire after 2006 I think. The only bad thing about it is we have a fast-acting clutch so it takes some getting used to to keep from engine "flaring" between shifts. There's a thread on here about it somewhere.

That has nothing to do with the clutch. It has to do with the delay in the drive by wire.

Oh, oops, I read further down and found the rest. I wonder if there is a way to tune the ECM to adjust that?

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?

Etech uses drive by wire.
Not on the Aussie 2009 GM/Holden Barina TKO9 with the E-TECK II 16V it don't (Chevy Aveo5 body and trim).

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
Yeah, you folks are a bit behind the 8-ball lol. I wonder when they'll change?

Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
Interested, but need more info as expressed above.
Would there need to be a Group pre-pay or will we buy when kits are ready?
-
Re: who wants to turbo their 1.6?
I dislike paying for something that will never be made lol

Dunno that they will , unfortunately with only 20 million people in total in Aus we're not a major sales target for anything much so we tend to get the left overs a bit.
There's been some talk about a 1.8 and should that happen + if they keep the 1.6 I would guess maybe then , we also don't get the 1.4 or the 1.2 .
