Wont start~timing belt issues? after i replaced the serpentine belt.

ok let me start off by sayin that this past week the car busted the serpintine belt. it still made it home but it was slaping everything under the hood. i replaced it (easy by the way) then wifey drove it 2 work for 2 days. the morning after it didnt start. it only made a winding noise. i couldnt work on it till today. well it was a gear inside were the timeing belt is at. it fell inside the plastic. i put it back. checked 2 see if the car would start and...NADA
i know theres some lines u have 2 line up on the bigger gears but i couldnt find it on here. anyways it wont start. sooo ima find a mech 2 fix it. most likely looking 2 replace the timing belt/ tensioner/ water pump. but it may be alota $$$$ ill get some quotes and get back to yall.

      Question?~
any one else attempt this? what em i missing on putting the timing belt back on?

if youve been cranking it over without the timing lined up you might want to check the valves..

thats definitely the gear from the water pump...not really sure how that would have come off???
most likely going to have to have water pump replaced unless there is a way to get that back on there, which i don't think there is

I think getting a new water pump is the least of this guy's worries. I'd say go with a re-manufactured head.

the gear that fell off is the other gear above the water pump. upper left. u can see my hand holding the gear that fell and u can also see were it belongs in the picture. all i kno is that its gonna need 2 go 2 a mech soon. ill probably buy a belt/ and water pump. wifey and i are considering on doing a trade in. after it starts.

I still think it needs a new head.

their is a really good chance with that gear falling off that timing jumped which will result in bent valves being an interference engine. externally, you wont see anything as far as bent valves go, you could end up being out $5-600 paying a mech to get it all back togwether and still not have it start

Your picture shows a crankshaft gear attached properly, and a hand holding the waterpump gear. Time for the timing belt job.
If you didnt ding any valves, during cranking. You might have gotten lucky like that. You or your mechanic will just need to line all the marks up as per the service manual, or my blog... www.aveodiy.blogspot.com . You have more work to do than the swap on my blog since you'll need a new waterpump.
