      Aveo5 Gas door lock

Someone tried to siphon my car and pried the gas door which in the process snapped the little black piece that locks the door (piece that goes in and out when you pull the gas door lever).

My question is do I need to replace the entire cable or is there a part for the piece that's broke and if so does anyone know what it is, I have searched on the internet and have come up blank looking for a part number.

      Thanks for your time

Just need the latch release, not the cable. I think I paid like $15 on RockAuto. Just make sure you clip locking pliers on the end of the cable when changing it so it doesn't slip back down in the hole. Fishing it back out is not fun.

Go to Chevy, it's $15 and they might have it in stock. I had some issues replacing it... took me a couple hours because it wasn't attached right and since the cable wouldn't unlock it, I had to break in with some pics. Look at the replacement and you'll see how it goes together... for the most part.

      Good luck.

Any chance of getting a step by step for switching out the replacement latch?

I don't even remember, I just looked at how the new one mounts and did the reverse.

      What I can remember:
Open gas cap (if you can)
pull back the inner hatch liner to access the rear where the cable goes
I think the popper might twist 90 degrees so you can pull it out
I don't remember if you unhook the cable from the popper first or vice versa

Sorry, maybe someone else can chime in. The main thing to remember is to have the popper in and cable PROPERLY connected before closing the cap, otherwise you'll need dental pics to break in.
