      Body Work advise

Some one rubbed up against my girl in the parking lot of a funeral home. My Aveo got a lot of white paint on her and some minor scratching on the passenger side door.

What type of rubbing compound have you guys used for things like that?

      Thanks,
      Mitch

I use Turtle Wax ICE. You can pick it up at any auto store or walmart. I rubbed a yellow pole with my s10 and it didn't dent my truck but left a nasty yellow rub on the side. Used the ICE Polish and it came right off. Just don't use it in the sun.

I don't trust most of the mass produced generic named car stuff you get from places like AutoZone mainly because they are made to satisfy "everyone" and not "your" paint type or color, depending on the chemicals used it could actually weaken your paint and/or clear coat (the sun does the damage, chemicals vs certain paint colors might = bad)...

So, instead of asking us here what you'd like, I'd recommend going to an automotive paint store, I'm sure there's someplace where you live, but where I live there's a place called Space Age, all they do is automotive paint. I love them because they know absolutely everything there is to know about how to work on paint, not like going to Auto Zone and asking them how to fix it cause they don't know sh*t about anything specific.

I've dealt with that "ICE" stuff before, not very good, their detailing spray leaves nasty swirl marks cause it's mostly water, but ICE can be OK, but nothing close compared to other stuff out there, like what I use (Meguires #21 Synthetic Sealant 2.0... So worth it... It costs $26 bucks...)

to take the paint transfer off, wipe it really good with lacquer thinner. Then bring back the shine with polishing compound, and a wool pad on a buffer (not D/A). just dont wax that spot on the car again for a few days.. and do a small test spot with tha lacquer thinner first, dont leave the paint wet for long either..

look for the quickest evaporating lacquer thinner you can find...dont use too much either and test a small spot first

I've never used the ICE spay. I always use the paste-style polish. I agree though, when in doubt ask a proffessional. Someone actually trustworthy won't charge you for good advise.

+1. It definitely won't hurt it. I've used it a couple times to take off tar and bug residue, works pretty well for that. And it leaves the paint feeling smooth.
      Something like this maybe? http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G1016...2710387&sr=8-1
You might want to get the aggressive clay though. Pics would helpful in determining what sort of product to use.

At first I thought the OP was talking about some dude rubbing up on his girl after a funeral. All I could think of was Chaz from wedding crashers.

i am a professional , you can use a clay bar, but you will "gum" it up if there is that much transfer on it, i would wipe it off with lacquer thinner, then if you still want more, clay bar it.

but things have steps, you dont start sanding putty with 2000 grit, just like you dont start taking off transfer with a clay bar. both will work, just take more time and effort.

BUT always test the lacquer before just getting it all over the door.. or wherever.
