Can Daytime Running Lights Be Turned Off?

The title says it. Is there a way to turn off the daytime running headlight feature? I have gone through 3 sets of SilverStar headlight bulbs, not cheap, and a pain to replace to, in 6 years, and it is a pain in the neck to have the headlights on all the time. I'm not in Canada. There is no law to have them running all the time in the USA is there? I sure dont see it on Hondas or Scions or Toyotas. I know it is suppose to be a safety thing. But every car and truck I have ever owned has NEVER had that dumb option. You turn on the headlights at night and in the rain. It must save on the battery and maybe my starter would have lasted a while longer, not having all that power pulled to light the headlights up all day. When I turn on the headlights, there is barely any difference. At least in my Aveo. The lights are so bright, it I forget to turn them all the way on at like dusk, I dont notice much of a difference in the light strength.

So..can it be overridden, pull out a fuse someplace and it deactivates that daytime running feature? I am smart enough to turn on my own headlights when I need them. And it will save me buying another set of SilverStars in about 8 months now. Can it be done?

i am very interested in this.
i dont believe it can be done without some rewiring(based on my little understanding),
but i dislike them as well.

You need to unplug the module. Search the how-to section, I believe this has been covered for the 1st gen Aveo.

Unplug the module for the first gen and pull the fuse for the second gen. Frog covered it well: search is your best friend.

Hi. Thank you for he answers, I went to look at the posting you linked me to...I am sorry, I see 2 things in that picture with white labels on them right above the gas pedal. I dont want to pull on the wrong thing and screw up my car...not after yesterdays repair bill!!! I will go look at my car when I log off...but if there are like 2-3 things that can be pulled out with labels on them, unless it says 'headlights' or something like that,...which one is it? Or is there only one 'module' there that can be pulled out. I will have to go look, but I am asking while I am in here. I assume the 06 is in the first generation? Thank you

It's labeled HASMAR our something very similar to that. It also says "Made in Canada" (drl's are required up there). And you can't mess anything up. If you unplug it, start your car, put your e-brake down, and the headlights stay off, you unplugged the right thing. And it's easily reversible, all you have to do is plug it back in if you ever want to go back.

yes. it was incredibly simple. i feel dumb for not looking it up before.
its the only one in that general area, besides the ringer box thing,
which i had already unplugged anyways.
