      Hail Damage/Vandalism Question

      Hi Everyone,
I have a question. So I recently discovered that my Aveo (2008 LT) had hail damage and also what appears to be an attempted break in on the driver side door where some of the weather stripping was damaged as well as well as a small dent on the top of the door. It actually was pointed out to me so it shows how much I even noticed, lol!

As with probably any insurance, I consulted my agent. I wanted to understand the following:

      1. Deductible: I have a $250 deducible. Sadly, I would have to make two claims and pay $500 if I want both repaired by the body shop I went to for an estimate.

      2. Future Claims/Premium: I was told that making claims to fix hail damage and the vandalism would not count against my premium rising. Only accidents count depending on how they are paid out.

I took it into a dealer body shop today and they will have the estimate tomorrow. My question to all of you is should I go forward and have them repair the hail damage and vandalism, just one of the two, or neither and simply pocket the money/or not file a claim?

I know many of us on here love our cars and would probably want them looking the best. While I take pride in my car, it's not like I'm driving something super expensive here. It's a car with 82,000 miles and 6 years old.

With that in mind, what would all of you do? Thanks for any and all advice!

The hail damage will probably be the more expensive repair, I'd call the dent on the door part of the hail damage, make one claim and fix the weather stripping myself.

I would say.....It all depends if your going to keep your Aveo and drive the wheels off it or not ? If you plan to sell or trade it in some day, then yes keep it looking good.

If the Hail damage is bad enough to where the paint has cracked on the edge of the dent, I would fix it so you don't start having rust issues in the future.

Not by choice, I had to give my 07 Aveo5 a Rust-Oleum make over at 53,000 miles because of Deer and Hail damage, long story.

      1. Take pictures.
      2. If the damage had to be pointed out to you for you to notice, id say just leave it. Its an Aveo, not a Corvette; save the $$$.
