The only trick to it is unhooking the metal clasp that locks it in place
how do i do that?Quote:

There's a metal/wire hook thing that you need to unhook from its holder. Just push down and pull away from the headlight housing I think. It's pretty easy to figure out. If I could do it, I'm sure you can.Quote:

6 remove bulb and replace it with new light
7 replace wire spring using other light as a guid (belive me if you don't you will never get this right)
8 replace rubber
9 plug wires back in and line the housing up with bolt holes
10 replace bolts to hold the light housing
11 Replace grill and you are back in buisness

You don't need to take out the battery to replace the driver's side bulb. I never have. It would make it easier, but the time of unhooking, removing, and rehooking the battery probably takes longer than the time of working in the tight space.Quote:

these guys have some good deals on bulbs.
All right, my headlight just went out and I got to this step and found that there's some plastic clip keeping the damn assembly in. It's all the way up against the quarterpanel and my hands are too beefy to squeeze in there. How the hell does it come out? (2005 model)Quote:

Obviously if I followed steps 1 and 2 I have the grill off...
it's a round plastic piece that locks into the metal frame around the assembly near the outer edge of the light (behind the outermost lens). I think I'll just yank the battery to get into it because I tried pulling and prying on the assembly for an hour yesterday and it didn't budge. That clip isn't in the manual or even mentioned.
you should be able to just remove the whole light assembly then the wires are easy to take off the back once you have the rubber off and the wires off you need to be very carefull and remove the sring loaded wire that holds the bulb in place it is this damn wire that makes this whole thing a bitch in the first place
Nope I get the grill off and remove the three bolts and it won't come out. Drivers side, far outer corner is held in by some odd plastic clip. It's round and actually has a tab that locks it in.
Don't know what that is.
try taking the wires off the rubber part so you can see the 1 screw that holds the bulb in and attemp to do it with the housing still attached to the frame
just use your fingers to reach in there, you dont need your whole hand. just your the index and middle finger.
Take the rubber boot off, Unhook the wire retainer (push in towards the headlight, and then squeeze both sides towards each other), Then the bulb will almost fall out.
This is probably the EASIEST car to change light bulbs in. It shouldnt take more than 60 seconds a side.
Well I got the light changed and found that there was an actual screw holding the light in at that end. It took me an hour to unscrew it an 1/8 turn at a time with a 10mm wrench. Then I needed a pair of pliers to pull the other end out of the plastic clip. Here's a pic of the screw/bolt. The graph paper is 4 squares to the inch.

you didnt need to take that out. thats just to stabilize the headlight. you should have just wiggled the headlight, and it should have came out. some times it takes a little bit more time, but it should come out with just those three bolts on the headlight tabs.
isnt there a how to on this? with pics? thkis guy is really complicating things lol.
very true!Quote:

found it! ^ theres a how-to for ya!
I pulled on the headlight as hard as I could and it would not budge... I was rocking the car back and forth. It took a pair of pliers to take out AFTER I unscrewed it from the assembly. That stabilizer wasn't gonna just wiggle out.Quote:

I figured it all out after taking the second lamp assembly and looking more closely as to how the spring was placed. I must say it was the most work I ever had to perform on any car, GM or otherwise. That spring setup is for the birds!
once I had the three bolts out, I used my long handled needle nose pliers and wedged them inbetween the headlamp housing and plastic portion of the stabilizer and pried alittle and it popped right out. I wasnt changing the bulbs though, I was removing the headlight assemblies so I could drill out an opening for the unused lens to relocate the bumper mounted side marker into the headlight assembly

I replaced both headlight bulbs this weekend. Piece of cake. Certainly not as easy as some cars but after doing some reading it was very easy.
--Remove Grille (3 screws and 2 plastic screw clips)
--Remove headlight unit (3 screws. Takes a bit of wiggling but comes out pretty easily)
--Peel back the rubber boot
--Used a blade screwdriver to gently pry the connector off the 3 prong bulb (much easier than pulling)
--Unclip the bulb wire (much easier than waht I've read here)
--Replace boot
--Plug in
--Test
--Replace everything in reverse order
When removing the whole housing is so easy, I see no sense in trying to work in the cramped space when the housing is left in place. There are a couple of demos on Youtube that help a lot.
Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

You clearly have a newer aveo. This guide is for the old ones. And fyi, you don't need to take off grille to take headlight assembly out, and you don't need to take the assembly out to change the bulb, although I see you addressed the last part in your post
My Aveo is 2006. You can't get to the 3rd headlight enclosure screw without removing the grille.
I guess you could do it without removing the enclosure but it sure seems easier if you do.
Exactly, 2006 is the t250 body. And I never take off the grille to get to the 3rd screw. All I do is put an m10 socket on an extension bar. Anyways, all of this is irrelevant because the early body style is much harder to change the bulbs on
i would recommend not getting hid's in the stock housing, i did and the actual light output was awful, way less than GE nighthawk platinum's which after spending lots experimenting i found to be the best halogens. in about three weeks my hid projector lenses and hid kit will be in, i will let you know how well that works in this thread.
This video shows exactly what I did. He did a nice job explaining everything.
