hood is stuck shut - solved!

Hello all, today i wanted to change my oil but the job was put to an abrupt end when i couldnt get my hood to open. I tried a pair of pliers on the cable behind the handle but it didnt work. I also moved the car around a bit to see if it was a level issue (it wasnt). How can i get my hood to pop so i can replace the cable or latch. I was considering smashing my grille and using a flat head to pop the latch but i dont want to do that unless its absolutely necessary.

I've had a couple sticky latches before. Try putting your hands flat on the hood near the latch, and give it a few firm pushes (without putting dents in the hood). Now try and get your fingers under the hood and pull up a few times, as if it would likely pop open. It won't, but the latch is probably just gummed up. In between doing this rotation, keep trying the release latch. Unless something has broken, it'll probably eventually go. Just spray down the latch after with some wd40 or equivalent after.

wd40 or pb blaster. You are sure the cable pulled and is not broken? the lever pulls and returns on it own?

Stick the straw of the blaster through the grill and spray. Once you get it open, spray it again until it loosens up.
Once it is loose, then spray lithium / or some water proof grease on it to keep it moving.
(wd40 and PB will dry out and quit working for the long term)

Well i had some luck getting the hood open. I had a friend push down on the hood and i pulled the cable and the hood popped up. I sprayed some starrett m1 lubricant on the latch and the latch mcehanism and now the hood pops every time.
