I need opinions...SOON!

Okay, so because of where I'm working part time I ran into a great deal, so I thought I'd ask all you opinions on which YOU'D prefer as far as a new Aveo hood style.

I ask because I can not only get some prototypes made, but I have a company WILLING to make them with a min. purchase of only 5 hoods. (That's 1/5 of most companies first run requests, usually 25+)

So here's the 2 options I can get started on immediately.

Super Sport style

Yes, I realize these pictures are from VIS Racing, but NO they are not the ones making these hoods, I'm just using the pictures as reference.

Let me know soon so I can get the hood scoop blanks I need for an affordable price. I can't get these blanks after Friday June 1st.

These will be FULLY functional, i.e. they will have open scoop/extractor for air intake/outlet (depending on style).

i think just a flat one would do, you know with out the scoops, but if i had to choose it would be the first one

The 2nd if it was less dramatic, more similar to an EVO hood, otherwise the first one.

I like the invader style better and personally I think the invader hood with look nice with some small vents on either side near the back of the hood. Also what kind of price and materials would we be looking at for these hoods?

This is VERY preliminary...I am getting some Carbon scoop blanks to use on my OEM style Carbon hood to make the Prototype. Unfortunately I can only make one style (since I only have one donor hood).

As far as final materials and prices? Will not know for awhile, since that step comes after I actually make the original, take it to the manufacturer, get them to make the molds, price material costs, etc.... but on average hoods run about $300-600 in fiberglass or carbon... that is an ESTIMATE. Don't quote me.

Anyone want to trade a stock steel hood and like $200 for my carbon hood, then I can get this started sooner (and I don't have to cut up a Carbon Aveo hood). I prefer local pickup though, shipping hoods SUCK!

why cant you do one with some kind of ram air or opening on the intake side for those who run SRI's. it would be similiar to an eclipse hood and hwo they have a hump on the intake side

Basically cause I don't personally like the Asymetrical look of the hood that way.

Also, this isn't a forced thing, I was just curious who would want a Carbon or Fiberglass hood and if one of these styles was agreeable by the group. I bought two "Scratch 'n Dent" hoods today (one of each style) to cut up and use, I just was wondering which people liked more.

I'd probably go with the first one. Kind of echoing what BigNasty said though, something with side scoops (both sides though) would be nice too

i retrack my previous statement i wouldnt want either of these hoods because i drive in the rain quite frequently, and i dont need water under my hood.

so whoever said a good oem hood or mabye one with a slight cowl in it

production class rally cars are no different from their passenger counterparts, except for saftey equipment.

Now if the aveo had a distributor I'd be worried about water getting in there, but it's an ignition block thingy (whatever!). Unless you drive it into a pond, or didn't put your wires on right, I wouldn't worry about it.

A stock EVO has an open hood vent... and a warranty

Okay... here's the update on this.


I don't have the time, money, or professional skills needed to mold a scoop to my hood at this time. I did however buy one of each of these hoods.

If there was someone in California that would be willing to buy one of these hoods and mold the scoop into a stock hood, I would sell them the carbon hood for a HELLA good deal (PM me if truly interested). I want to do this for you all, but I can't attempt this personally.

I would not buy anything other than a factory style CF hood. Just make a factory style one, requires no molding of anything.

Those who currently already make Carbon Fiber OEM hoods for the Aveo tell me that no one orders them, and that is why they won't make other parts as well.

So why would I get ANOTHER version of an OEM hood produced, just to compete with the other companies already sitting on their inventory?

I have been trying to sell my Carbon OEM style hood for months, but no one wants to take the effort to pick it up AND pay for it.



Anyways, I'm working with another Arizona Aveo owner now on getting an SS style hood made, then we'll send it out for production.

id buy it, but im a struggling poor ass college student.

and you guys are either in my situation, or not serious to get stuff started with the aveo at all. only a few of us actually see a vision for this car.

Im not really interested in a CF hood because it doesn't have any performance benefits except shaving a few pounds off which really doesn't matter much unless you do it for the whole car, and I dont like the look of CF very much. We need to find aveo owners that are willing to dump money into the car...south america seems to have a ton, I was on cardomain last night and saw a turbo aveo from south america, and lots more were really customized and looked pretty good.

Okay...so Last Wednesday we (another Aveo owner and I) spent a few hours tearing apart a carbon fiber hood...to steall the SS scoop top skin off it.

I'll upload some pictures later, but this week I'm hoping to get the skin finished and ready to ship.

Aveo SS hood soon to be available!!!


Price so far is said to be at $395 in fiberglass, and shipping is freight collect (meaning you only pay what the actual freight charge is, when the part arrives).

Your hood isn't a structural element of the vehicle, it'll be as safe as it was with the original.

Hoods(metal ones) are meant to crumple in the event of collision to absorb impact energy.
But like exodus said they aren't structural elements. so safety isnt a real factor.

i tried to order this hood some months back and it got backordered which i took to mean that they didnt really have any to begin with. they are like some sites who advertise havin things for the aveos but actually dont. if anyone here has done any searchin for aftermarket parts for the aveo, you will know what im talkin about.
