LT Keys, talk about a rip
I went to the dealership the other day to check out the price of extra keys for my 2008 LT. The alarm switch key, Part # 96650588 is $148.84! Worse off, the only to program the alarm controller is to take the car in and let them hook it up to a computer, which costs another $45.00.
Grand total is 193.84 for a bloomin key! How screwed up is that?
Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
yup, thats why i have only had one key for a long time now...
but, ive always wondered, can u just get a copy of the key made and just not have the alarm part???
Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
Actually, when I got my car, I got two keys, one alarm controller and one plain jane key. A plain jane jey, you can get for about $25 at the dealer, or for $1.75 at home depot.
Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
Are you sure that it is not a transponder key. alot of the new cars have a built in immobilzer and there is a chip in the key that allows the car to be started. That may be why it is so expensive, and hence the need for dealer programming.
Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
An imobilizer is a standard equipment for the Aveo, so the key without remote entry has a chip in it, you'll have to disable the imobilizer if you want to use a simple copy key :)
Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
i got two keyless with my aveo when i got my 04
Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
Well, it sucks, but I went ahead and paid the money for the remote keys. I got 2 of them. I figure getting a regular key kind of defeats the purpose of having the keyless entry.

yeah it sucks.
they didn't give u 2 keys with the keyless entry when u bought the car?
Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
yeh i got 2 remote keys when i got my car... I think they really owe you a key...
Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
no kidding, I've never heard of getting a car with only 1 key.
Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
Certified used,
I ended up with 1 remote key, 1 standard key. I am not complaining too much, with the price I paid for the car. Just that getting the extra keys in a choker.

someone probably bought it and wasn't satisfied so they traded it in still brand new.
or salvage?
Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
It was a demo car, from what I understand. The car was clean, standard title, had 6700 miles on it. It was, for all purposes new. It did have a problem when I bought it, the heater core needed replacing. There was a problem with the connection (warranty repair).
Other than that, right as rain.

Re: LT Keys, talk about a rip
God, that is outrageous. Now I understand when the dealership told me to hold onto my keys like gold.
