      Paint chipping

Has anyone had any problems with the paint chipping on the hatchback? Its a 2009.......have had it for 4 months. I noticed chipping on the seam right above the hatchback door handle. I included a picture that points to where the paint is chipping. I haven't had a chance to take a picture of the actual chipping though.
I'm taking it to the dealership next week, but was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same problem.

I have the same model, and the same color. I doubt that chips are the fault of the factory. All I can say is that the fit and finish on mine is one of the best I've ever seen - and that was unexpected for an inexpensive, economy car.

      Re: Paint chipping

I'd bring it to the dealership. It should be covered if it's not damage related.
I leased Pontiac Wave from September 2006 to August 2011.

I attached some close up pictures of it. I'm taking it to the dealership to see what they say about it since I have only had it 3 months. Wont be for a week or so because of Finals though.

can you take a few pictures from more angles? also one going under the license light panel?

that looks like a tape line to me, probably from before you bought it. what color is it underneath the peeling?
how straight do your letters appear? does the license panel rub there /move at all?

Maybe others are thinking what I'm thinking...

If your practically new car is showing any defect in paint it probably happened by accident on the dealer's lot and was repaired by the dealer. Sometimes cars suffer minor body damage and are repaired and sold as new, and the unaware buyer remains none the wiser.

In most states disclosure of such damage and subsequent repair is required by law. But most car owners are not savvy enough to identify any body work the car might have had until problems begin to appear. As more time passes it becomes increasingly harder to prove how it happened.

If you suspect this might be the case, I'd recommend that you take it to one or more independent auto body shops for an unbiased professional opinion. If they detect body work was done on the car before you bought it, you need to discover it and get documented proof of it before approaching the dealership where you bought it. Obviously if the car were damaged and repaired, the dealership is not going to want to admit it. But if it were damaged and repaired, and they did not disclose it to you they will be in the hot seat if you have sufficient evidence of it (determined by qualified professional appraisal) and it was not disclosed to you when you bought it.

Get some independent appraisals and be sure to get them in writing, as you may need to build a case to recover financial compensation.

      Re: Paint chipping

This may be naive of me....(this is my first new car)...but shouldn't it all be covered under the warranty anyways?
I'll try to take more pictures, hopefully I understood the places you asked for correctly.
I'm not too concerned about it...... because it is a tiny tiny area, but I was curious if it was something that has happened to anyone else. I'll take it to a couple places, and see what they say. Also, give it a more detailed look over in the area.
Side note: the dealership I purchased it at picked up the car from another, at my request, so maybe they weren't aware of a repair? It was a odd situation. I had 2 cars in mind and the dealership that initially said they would made the trade with my dealership called off the deal when mine drove to get "my" car, so they had to find a comparable (more expensive to them actually ---but not for me) car at another dealership. it was kinda a shot gun deal for them. I had originally wanted that specific VIN car that I now have, so it worked out for me...............i just hope there is nothing fishy going on now
      (hope that was coherent....lol)
Thanks again.... work all this weekend and then finals till next monday, so I will try to get the other pictures up after that.

Like I said...If the car is under warranty and the chipping is not damage related, but rather a defect in the product or the way the paint was applied at the factory or during the PDI, then there is no reason the dealership won't cover it. GM will ask the dealership to send some pictures in and will decide to, or not, cover it.
