      Panoramic roof - Project - M33EVL

      hey guys n girls..
i been away for a while from here... been a bit busyyy..
hers some pics of what ive done lately... choped my roof off
and then almost finished adding my polycarbonate roof on should have it atleast bolted in place by sunday if not by next week depending on my schedule...

its going to be see through i know it does seem it. its because the protective plastic film is still on it. once thats removed i will tint it with limo black tint film, and then it should look AMAZING :P well thats the plan.. :\ fingers crosssed..

      leme knw wht u fink..

ive been told im an idiot already so dnt b shy LOLLL.. and any ideas are more than welcom..
im thinking to spray my litl vortex generators (lil spikes at the back) in white and the spoiler in carbon fiber bonet carbon fiber and rest of car in white... and my side skirts and rear wide arches all in carbon fiber as well... and some NIICEEE 18" or 19" CHROME RIMS to finish it off
before u say they wont fit... they will on mine.. becuase ive cut away at the original fender and car body to allow extra room for the wheel space... maybe even thinking of having wideer 19's on the back and normal 18 or 17's on the front.. as my wide arch at the back is so wide n chunky...
well we shal see in due time.. il cross that bride when i get there as they say lol..

I think that's a neat idea. I like form and function and having been contemplating foing a ragtop sunroof on my Z34 once I have it off the road for a resto.

nice one... hope it goess well... all im saying is if your planning on cutting with an angle grinder.. make sure you have PLENTY OF DISCS.. i went through at least 4-5 discs LOL!!
i got anoyed in the end and just used a jigsaw with a metal blade got a bit tricky when it came to the beams going across as there was ALLLOOTTT of vibrating and shaking as the metal as in layers..
      but worth it .. DEFOO..
i litrly just sat in my car for like 1 hour just looking up thinking i cant wait til im on the road and at night time... youl b abl 2 see the stars through your roof... and during the day i still need to find a solution for VERY SUNNY days were ima probably get blinded by the sun...
thinking of possibly puttin in a blind/curtain sort of thing.. like you get those car blinds... but have one thats retractable.. so i just pull it along and then tug and it rolls away by itself... not alot of space used and does the job...

      Re: Panoramic roof - Project - M33EVL

ye but it costs BUXXXX!!! i looked in to that was abit risky as well for me because its like a sheet that goes over the glass. and i wasnt sure if it would be flexible or not and i needed it to be so i could have the curvs of the roof and also id be drilling in to do..
and from what i read about it when i was doing research i think it has some sort of current running through it. theres a few different types but the one that caught my attention was "Polymer dispersed liquid crystal glass"
basically you have a switch and it goes from like you said transparent to opaque at the flick of a switch.
however i dont know if id get away with it because im bolting my sheet in, then sealing it around the edges from inside and outside. and im guessing that would have some sort of impact on the functionality of it as it would probably "break the circuit" as there would be holes all around the edges.
ahh well. good old polycarbonate will do me for now... going to have a clear coat of scratch resistant laqure on the outside as well once i finish installing it all. so if i go under any low tress i dont get no scratches from twigs and branches. or if i leave my bag on the roof and drag it off and the zip or something scratches it

Thats super cool. Back in the 70's buick made a skyhawk (chevy monza style car) with an all glass roof..

They called it the Astroroof option. Only a few thousand were made and just a handfull exist today.

Awesome Idea. Did you do anything for strengthing? Will suspension mods be enough to reduce flex to keep this from twisting your seal loose and causing leaks?
A body to G Body to F Body to DSM to Subcompact?

well ive been bolting it down today every few cm's and ive run out of bolts LOL..
and after that im going to give at seal like they use in bathrooms for showers and so on. then a coat of fiberglass on top with a touch of filler for shaping it up.. and then black rubber mastic to be double sure no water leaks in, and because its flexible i should get away with it... (fingers crossed) lool!

in regards to strengthening im going to have 1 5cm wide steel support going acroos covered in carbon fiber to semi blend in with the black tint that will go on in a few days time or by next week anyway.

and also im planning on geting a front upper and lower strut and also rear upper and lower strut when i get around to it.. but that would probably be last thing on my list before i start engine work as im not about to start racing my car around.. YET... lol :P

i dont have a clue how to even get sponserd and to be honest i dont think anyone would lolll
and plus as much as i would love to be sponsored i dont want someone telling me what to do with my car and having 101 stickers all over the place... not a big fan of decals...

btw the roof wont be retractable.. i ment il have a blind being used as a type of shade when its summer to block out the sun to be used... which will be retractable not the polycarbonate sheet itself..

ye my seats are bolted in. i fabricated the original sub frames with gliders and used a universal racing seat bracket to connect the seats to the subframe
a bit of drilling and sum cutting with an angle grinder done the job... just remember if you are gona do it... smooth out the metals edges were you cut it or bend it over so you dont cut yourself every time you try and recline your seat or put your seat belt in ...
