Re: Rustproofing undercoat ?
Usually, cars coming from the north already have uncercoat. Areas that are prone to snow.
I know my 08, has undercoating, it was standard for my area (seattle). You may want to check with your dealership to see whether it is supposed to be standard, or whether it is an option for your area. If it is an option, I would highly suggest that you go ahead and out the money for it, it will increase the life of your undercarrige.
Re: Rustproofing undercoat ?
i live in ny and mine doesnt have that much undercoating on it.
Re: Rustproofing undercoat ?
My 08 Aveo comes with a 6 year / 100,000 mile rust warranty. I am not sure cars rust like they used to in the 70's and 80's. I actually heard that rustproofing can trap moisture in the panels causing more damage.

Not when it's done right, from the factory.

I wasn't talking about anything from the factory. The original post was about aftermarket install of undercoating and rust proofing. After it has left the factory it can accumulate moisture in transit and on the lot or while you drove it around. then a barrier coat is applied trapping that moisture. That was my point, not that the factory will f it up. As I stated the factory now offers a 6yr/100K rust warranty, therefore they are pretty confidant that they won't rust out in a normal lifetime.

Ahh now I get it. Well yeah. That's why when a car has no rustproofing it's best to do it when it's driven off the lot.
Re: Rustproofing undercoat ?
i've heard that rustproofing like the 3M rubberized undercoating retains moisture, and i've heard that some people swear by it. me personally i just prefer to leave my car non undercoated and go with the 6yr/100000 mile gm warranty.

Rubberized undercoating is great for a new car, but cannot be used on a used car. The undercoating is great, it also acts as a sound barrier making the interior of the car even quieter. Here one place that sprays it warranties again rust for 8 years, no annual checks required.
But I have checked under my Wave recently, the factory undercoating is great. I've never seen anything like it yet. The only thing rusted is the exhaust.
