while it is not "legal" in most states, it is typically not a real issue if you can fully see the brake lights and turn signals during regular driving. If you decide to do it is up to you. Look up the code for yourself, and look at local cars to see how many have them done. Just remember, if you do it, and get pulled over you cant be upset. Also, i dont know where you are from, but state inspection requirements in PA are different than enforcement code.. So even though your smoked lights might pass inspection it might not be ok for the street, or vise versa.

      Re: Smoked Tail lights?

the LED smoked ones from eBay probably will pass any inspection they will throw at you, plus they say right in the listing that they're SAE/DOT approved... I haven't had any problems with mine. And I always prefer LED over regular bulb. But like rabbit said, it's up to you if you want to take the risk... and if you want to fork out $175. But then you can always go back and forth in between the two 'cause you have your stock ones. If they tell you to remove the tint for the inspection, chances are, you won't be able to save it to put it back on afterwards. And if you spray tint them and fail the inspection - well, then you either looking at a whole lot of sanding or buying new lights anyways.

So here's the link I looked at, and they look like the same style as the ones I have, just for sedan. And they should actually be tinted a little darker in real life.

I used 3 or 4 coats of VHT Niteshades on mine, and my friends brother who is a NY state trooper said that its fine, just as long as you can see red when the lights are on, and reverse is still white. Although it may not be legal, he said he wouldn't issue a ticket for it

You'll most likely be forking over for the ticket then... From what I understand, the cops are much more lenient towards your tails being tinted... your headlights - another story.
