As said wax it in the shade if it is a dark color, (I do it in the garage), and if it's at all humid the wax will streak, I've seen it happpen on warm car hoods also.
I've been doing this for years, even owned my own detail shop for a couple of those years. I use Meguires Gold Class if I'm not useing some of the stuff left over from the supplier I had.

That's what i have, gold class. What other types of applicators can I use? The meguires kit i got had a couple waxing pads but not enough to do the whole car..had to use microfiber for removing it.

The terry cloth wrapped foam pads work well too, along with the foam pads that come with most brands. Wet the pads just a little before you apply the wax and it will go ALOT farther for you. Never use a micofibre to remove the wax, always use a terry cloth to remove it, fold the towel into sections and flip to a clean side often.
