undecided on what color to choose
So my alarm came in today, plan on installing it tomorrow, but im kinda undecided on what LED color to choose, my car is victory red, my original plan was to do all red LEDs(underbody, 7 LED scanner, the rea where you put your feet), thing is the alarm comes with a blue blinking LED, the only thing i like about the blue one i that is brighter, but i really wanna match my car with the lights.
What do you think? would all blue look good on a red car?does anybody here have red leds on their cars?

Re: undecided on what color to choose
There are some people with red LEDs here if I remember correctly. My question is, since you'll almost never have the interior/underglow lights on while the alarm is activated, why does it matter if they're different colors? If your alarm is secured, most likely your lights are off...
You could always take apart the module that has the LED in it and wire the red one in there...
Just do a quick google search for "red LED interior" in images... (first one is actually right-hand drive Aveo from overseas)
Here's a few pics off the internet:

Re: undecided on what color to choose
The interior LEDs will be on when the parking lights are on, and my underody LEDs will only be on when alarm ir armed, or for 10 secs after I lock it, also when car locator function is used, but not when driving. I had red neons before on a red car and loved it, but I have never personally seen red LEDs.

Re: undecided on what color to choose
hope the pictures above help... here's a link to the different custom/LED upgrades to the gauges from the company I just got mine from: http://www.blackcatcustom.com/custom%20design.htm

Re: undecided on what color to choose
Yeah, one more thing, where did u get the LEDs you have on your bumper? Are they strips?
-
Re: undecided on what color to choose
LED strips from AutoZone... $20 bucks a pair.

Re: undecided on what color to choose
OK cool, I have a vato zone close to me.
As for the LEDs, I'm gonna go with red ones, I found some on eGay.
Are the LEDs you have legal or are they same principle as neons?

if you're talking about under body neons, than no, its different. You would definitely get pulled over for driving with those on. With LED strips - there is a lot of mercedes and audis that have them from the factory now, so they're more relaxed about those (just like about HIDs). If they wanted to, I'm pretty sure they could say something about it, but I have them wired as my parking lights. They're white in color (cool white), and my turn signals are amber, so color wise I'm legal... Haven't got any trouble for them yet, so I'll have to assume the cops don't care much about them... now it could be different from state to state, maybe even county to county... hopefully won't hear nothing from them though.
I think they say they can't be distracting for other drivers (as neons usually are). if they're right colors, there shouldn't be an issue with them. Install at your own risk though.

Re: undecided on what color to choose
this is one thing that confused me... i was once speaking with an officer and he said ye neons are illegal because they distract other users... then i asked if blue bulbs are illegal and again he said yes as they would distract road users..
does anyone know if a WHITE under car neons/LED's are illegal?? because in theory.. they are white.. just like the rest of the colours of the bulbs on all the cars...
but as for distraction... im not sure if id get away with that bit.. :(

Re: undecided on what color to choose
Now that U say this, in my eclipse I had installed an aftermarket bumper, which didn't have the holes for bottom parking lights; I just left them there hanging, it did iluminate my front part of the car, was pulled over many times but they never mentioned anything.

Re: undecided on what color to choose
here where i live its ok to have under car lights, but they dont want them 2 be visable.
like all they want 2 see is then light shining on the road. if u can see it thru a mesh grille bumper ull get pulled over.
Blue is defintaly illegal but if ur parked with them on, its ok. other wise ull get pulled over. i kno this lol.
colors that pass in front of head lights, white, amber, and yellow.
in the rear amber, yellow, and red. white for the reverse.

Re: undecided on what color to choose
i think i may enquire in to this with an police officer or do some research.. becuase i cant risk driving with neons on as i already have 6 points.. any ore points and im back on a ban and they will take my license away and id have to start from scratch and get a provisional and do my test all over again as im doing now.. :(
but im not sure im feeling white under car glow... :\ my cars already going to be white as it is...and then i have HID's might be overkill on the white...
i currently have blue ones...... hmmm

Re: undecided on what color to choose
you dont get points over silly things like neons
blue and red are bad to choose, the cop could be a dick and say you were pretending to be an officer :|
you can really only have white and amber on the front of the car and red on the back, but that would be stupid, even white neon is not allowed, ive done a lot of research into this subject btw
i think it is silly its not legal (only when your car is moving is it illegal) but besides being a distraction on a sort, the glass from the neon tubes can break (ive broke mine before) and in turn become dangerous im assuming, there was several other things but i cant remember
i wouldnt worry about them unless your building a true show car

You're forgetting he's in UK, hunter, and their point system is different. And getting a license again from scratch for us in US is about $25-50... For them in Europe it can be upwards of $2,000. Plus, I remember hearing a while back that if you pass your driving test in an automatic car you're not allowed to drive manual unless you retake the test in a manual transmission automobile. :D

Re: undecided on what color to choose
4g63gst20, so what did you decide on the alarm LED? Are you re-wiring it or just leaving it be blue?

The alarm LED i'm not installing at the moment, ill just see if i can exchange it at a local shop. but the LED scanner is already installed and its red, so that means i'm going all red, already ordered the red LED strip for the interior.

I'd still highly suggest to go with white LED bulbs for dome light and cargo area light for visibility and less trouble from Johnny Law in case you need to turn it on while driving.

Re: undecided on what color to choose
Actually the dome and cargo are staying stock, maybe i'll add white LEDs in there but is not something i really wanna do soon.
Im also gonna order some white LEDs for the front cuz im really digging yours bro!
they look super awesome

I just got some strips from AutoZone.

Re: undecided on what color to choose
Actually my local vato zone don't have the strips, only the LEDs that come already in a nice housing with lens and are kinda like fog lights. But one question, do they actually iluminate the road or just for show?

Just for looks. I got the Hella 500FFs right next to them with a set of 3000K HIDs in there. plus the 6000K HIDs in my headlights. They are bright enough to light up a couple of feet in front of them, but that's nothing that you can rely on while driving.

Re: undecided on what color to choose
the 2010 audi r8 had led headlights.. supposed to become the norm for audi, aftermarket companies are already trying to develop similar in fog lights and such..

The set of Audi all LED headlights will cost about $5,000 according to "car and driver". They're designed with proper optics to be bright enough to do the job. The strips I have are $20 per pair. They're just for looks.

Re: undecided on what color to choose
yeah but aftermarket companies rely on the 100000000000000 people like you that want the looks..
i'll have to look up those headlights list price...
