      Re: Vertical Doors

ive still got the hinges, im planning to make a fabricated plate and then weld it on possibly and then have the hinges higer up abit.
if that dont work then off they go to ebay LOL

il take a pic and load it up within the next few days. ive put a bit of filler on the dent tho, as it was kinda anoying me lol... understandbly... so u cant see the entire dent as it was.. but you wil get a rough idea from the area and amount of filer visable..

      EDIT

opps sorry read it as a-pillar for some reason. i didnt put my fenders back on with the hinges on so im not even sure it would fit. but the thing is as im planning on making my own wide arch and beefed out fenders it wouldnt of been a problem if the hinges would come out too far as the fender would be made so wide the inner bit could b made to look like a vent like the versus kit for the aveo you usually see in the lime green. bit chunkyer

      Re: Vertical Doors

hey i know i said i was going to do this way ages back. but heres a pic of the dent well after a bit of filler was put over it... just to show u a rough idea of how bad it was.

ive found a solution for the rubbing.. researched a bit in to how the well known LSD doors work..
what they do they have a large spring inside which cleverly pushes the hinge OUTWARDS when its been opened...
      soo easy solution..
      lol
i just purchased a few clutch plate springs off ebay gona just use them... weld 1 end to the car and the other to the hinge..
but may sell hinges... looking for a motorised J hinge set...

DONT BUY THE CRAPPY OTHER TYPES.. there aload of rubbish.. stick to J hinges in my opinion they are the best henc their price.. and because we dont have that much space in the fender area the other types wont really be much use as there wont be space for the shocks to move around in and out they would rub against the fender.. meaning LOAADSS OF FABRICATION work if even possible...

Dohoho! That's awesome! I always loved Lambo doors! I never thought of putting them on the 'Munk!

How much do the hinges cost? I'd love to have that done, though I know I couldn't do it myself. Maybe if I get my welder's certificate (thinking about changing my art degree to 3D with an emphasis in welding or pottery.) I could do it. It's something good to keep in mind.

hehe well its really not that hard after you deal with the first hinge..
if you know how to measure... and draw a dot.. your good to go lol.

this was the first ever one i done.. granted i have a million different holes on my hinges LOOOL buttt it works now so im happy...

i just bolted mine to the stock brackets holes.

i havent even welded anything in my life.. although i need to start loll as ima need alot of welding done soon

ye welding goes along way with cars man. rusty body work.. weld a plate on... new exhaust .. weld... evrything needs welding ... nearly.. lol

you could start a little business... just sit outside your front yard with your welder and welding mask... $30 to weld an exhaust on, $20 to weld a sheet of metal lol..

      Re: Vertical Doors

HAHA! That's actually why I kind of want to go into welding. It's good money, and welders are always needed. Only problem I'd have is it's a bit of a male-oriented industry, so it's sometimes harder for women to get employed there. Still, when I did it, I loved it. Spent 12 hours in the welding lab for class - all the way to 3AM - just to finish a project, and I didn't really even notice it. Sure, I was tired, but it was fun, so I was happy.

I'd love to get into welding for cars, too. That would help me learn the mechanics for repairing and modifying my own cars. My grandfather was a grease monkey, my mom learned a bit of it from him, and it's always made me sad that I didn't.

I'll have to look into the doors! That does sound a lot easier! How did you handle the wiring systems? The only thing I'd have wrong with modding my Aveo is it's my work transportation, and I wouldn't want to fudge it up when I really really needed it. I think I'm just going to keep driving it until it starts to die, and then use it as a guinea pig. :P

      Re: Vertical Doors

      wiring is easy...
you just cut the stock wires half way along between the door and the car. then install some extra wire easy fix. just a bit fidly as there isnt alot of space.. i still havent done this because i want my hinges motorised or il cry.. im a bit fussy with mods either its the way i want it or els its completly out the window... fuss pot as my sisters call me lol..
ahhh you should reallly do ittt im roouting for ya ... go girll!! loll well in my family theress.. umm... not really any1 aprt from a cousin who i dont really talk to in to cars.. and he just restores old classic cars... probably thinks im an idiot..
ahh see im lucky.. wel not really im on.. well was on a 2 year driving ban for being a bit silly a few times.. so i had the fun of doing wht i want.. and wudnt really matter as i cant drive the car anyway.. gear box is gone as well hence i wana do the engine swap.

you could go with the easier mods for now... like lil leds HID upgrades and lil bolt on mods..or even mods that theres how-to's on so you know wht 2 have ready at hand and then crak on during a weekend... that way itl b ready for the week when you back at work.. and its bolt on so u cant realllly fudge it up loll.. unless you go mental and start hammering everything.. whiiich i hope u wnt do 2 ur poor aveo

      Re: Vertical Doors

has any1 got any exp with motorizd lambo doors??
i wana motoriz mine.. but thing is my shocks are so powerful my door lfys up.. so im wondering will the motorised kit need to be of a specific .. power or something in order to handle a certain amount of lift from the gas shocks.. mine are like 700lbs
IF YOU HAVE AN AVEO DONT GET 700LBS.. your doors will go up so quick u wnt evn realiz...
my doors almost slaped me in the face the first time i tried to open them with the shocks attached and putting your doors down... lets put it this way.. your gona brk a swet evry time you do it STANDING UP.. dnt evn fink about doing it in ur seat lool!
mine was a kit of exoticcardoors.com good quality stuff i guess BUUUTTT shocks are way to powerful.. bit pricey too.. thought id get a good quality set rather than ebay it..

i wana swap em for an LSD set if they ever make them for our car...
