      Wind damage to door

The wind ripped open my door and I discovered what I think is a design flaw, because the wind didn't slam it open with an excessive amount of force. It would be nice if this was covered under warranty, but I doubt it is. Don't mind the dirt spots everywhere. I'm stationed in west Texas and when we have our two-second rain ever few months, the rain takes the dust out of the sky and puts it on your car. Oh, you just washed and waxed your car, it never rains here, but here, I'll cover it in dirt. I attached two pictures. One is of the damage and one shows you what caused the damage.

I forgot to add that this is a 2011 aveo sedan. The wind didn't even have enough power to bend the hinges. My door is completely normal, except for the dent and paint chip. You would think that it would take more wind power to do that kind of damage.

Not really. Cars these days (from all makers) are made with pretty thin sheet metal to keep vehicle weights down. It doesn't take a ton to make a small bend like that.

I see. Well this really blows. My old 1996 honda accord never had that happen if the door was ripped opened by the wind. I got rid of that beast when it had 221,000 miles, and it was running great. I fixed everything on it and I only had to fix things that would normally wear out in any brand of vehicle. I had the money and it was time for a new car because I wanted something that actually looked nice. The aveo is kind of ugly and I can't wait to get the cruze eco. That's my dream baby.

I bet this tiny dent and paint chip is going to cost an arm and a leg to get fixed.

Not to sound stupid, but I'm not familiar with that part......Maybe part number 14 on this diagram - http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/catalog/frameset.cfm Eh, the link isn't working right. Select my 2011 chevy aveo lt, then click on body hardware>front door>lock & hardware. They call it a "Door Check".

Well, yesterday I went and looked at my car door to find the part you're talking about and it was blatantly obvious what the door check is. It seems completely functional. I think they designed it poorly and that it shouldn't have so much give to it. I guess that's a matter of opinion, though.
