I just put a box designed for the hatch (speaker facing the hatch) behind passenger side rear seat... it does get in a way a little, but not a whole lot if you have the seats down... Depends on what you put back there. I know that since I got my wife the HHR I don't need to put the double-stroller in the back.

Screech, so you're asking about upgrading your speakers to 6.5 and about installing an amp but hooking all that up to a stock h/u? Wouldn't you want to upgrade that first too? Even wheb you upgrade just the head unit you should get better sound than what you're getting right now with the same stock speakers because they're rated above what your h/u can produce. I would wait until I can install it all together because you might not see much improvement with just a speaker upgrade.

the man has a point... if you just want a little louder and better quality.. buy a new headunit and it will really help give you hose desired results... new speakers on the stock headunit will give you a better quality sound but will not help you get any louder... due to your headunit still only putting out so much power...

thats an easy solution for you single din guys, i don't want to make the nice interior in my car look less streamline with an aftermarket head unit and and big cubby in the middle.

i did notice an improvement in sound going to the premium CD radio over the svm amfm radio..

Single din? I went with a double-din which IMO goes well with the rest of the interior. and gets rid of that little shelf under the single-din AM/FM that was in there... Plus the blue lighting goes well with blue LED lighting in the speedometer/tachometer/HVAC...

I'm happy with this unit, 170 bucks, that's inlcuding free shipping, and all the mounting hardware for my year/model... with separate pre-amp outputs for the fronts, rears, and the sub... And the options are not bad either...

But yeah, head unit first, then speakers and amps.
