      6.5" front door speakers help!

Hello! I own an 2004 Chevrolet Aveo, and I would like to install a new 6.5" pair of speakers in the front doors. I read about people installing speakers with a maximum depth of 2". I found a pair of Crunch BlackMaxx BMX63 speakers, that are 57mm in depth, or about 2.24". I am not sure if they will fit in, what do you think, will the window touch the speaker?

I could go with a pair of Pioneer TS-G1723i, which are 46mm deep, which is 1.81", but I like the others more.

PS: Also, what larger size of speakers can I replace the rear speakers with?

I think you found all the answers with your research, but its just not reiterated recently.

you'll need a 1" spacer. If they are still longer (deeper) then they most likely will hit the window.

The rear in the hatch can only run the oe size. the sedan depends on how much work your willing to do to make them fit.

6.5s do NOT fit easily in the doors. I am using the MBQuart QLine component set with a .75" spacer and can not roll my window all the way down. If you only have one set put the 6.5s in the back and get a shallow 6.5 that will bolt up nicely or get the 4 incher to replace stock.

Or you could build your own door pods. I am going to start that next month because it is kind of a pain.

6.5'' shallow mount with a spacer might work, but I bought a spacer + regular 6.5'' speakers and still have issues rolling down my windows.

2.2" deep speaker, with 1.2" spacer, that is what I will be trying to do. If it does not work I am just going to return the parts to the store, and buy the thinner Pioneers.

i struggled for a very long time trying to get 6.5" speakers up front. not worth your time. i got a set of 5 1/4" rockford fosgate coaxials and they sound amazing. i threw my MB Quart 6.5's in the rear hatch cover and i couldn't be happier with my setup now. I know you can also put in 6x9's in the cover as well. Really any size, so long as you don't mind cutting.

Which were your problems with the 6.5 inch speakers? The diameter, or the depth? I am asking because I found a pair of Alpines that are 44mm deep. Maybe I should really go with the 5 1/4"...

Depth was the problem. Couldn't roll the windows down. Really the 5.25 inch speakers are just about as good especially if you have a sub to offload some of the bass from them. The ease of installation is well worth it.

I need to invest in some door panels and fiberglass. Make some custom speaker mounts that can go deeper. hmmm

if i only had the time and money haha. although, like i said, at this point with the sound quality i have it may not even be worth it except for the bling factor of custom pods. i have seen a few pics of custom pods in an aveo and they look spectacular. if that is an option for you, definitely something to consider.
