6.5" Speakers in the Doors

I found this thread about installing 6.5" speakers in the front doors. It was on the old forum posted by computerkiller.

ok people u might know the aveo has like 5 in speakers well the hole in the door allow 6 1/2 if u dont mind taking a drill to the door and useing speaker spacers because that what i done ill have to take pics to show you guys but it kinda tricky to do i found that only certirn speaker spacers work and once your get them in your got put something on the very bottom of the spacer so that when the window come down they dont hit your speaker magents ill try to draw up a digram or something to show

if you are wondering where i got my spacers go to circurt city roadshop and ask them for spacers for a 6 1/2 speaker it will cost u about 14 bucks
He used some speaker spacers from circuit city. All I could find online was these. Do you think they will work.

I put 6.5's into the doors as well, you can see the spacers on my cardomain, i had to drill new holes in the doors tho to install them, very easy to do tho

So a 1 inch spacer would be good. Would a 1.5 inch one work?

The ones i have are 1 inch, the speakers are pretty close to the door panel, i'm not sure if 1.5 inch would work

I ended up buying some scrap 3/4" MDF and made a couple spacers... worked great. You might want to check the depth of the speakers and the size of the magnets though. I'm cheaper in my old age, but I'm sure that I would have needed some more space if I used a better quality speaker with larger magnet.

Yes it is.

Just curious, if I had this mount made in like ABS plastic, would you guys want to buy them?? I still have the pods so I could get them made.

Is it worth my time and investment $$?

I have no idea. I know it will cost me some money to get molds made and blanks vacuum-formed. If there's enough interest I'll pursue it.

I used the factory holes on the door panel... I just cut my mdf spacers to fit, and drilled holes to match the factory holes. Came out pretty good for a 4$ investment.

I've always liked stealth installs, and it looks neat seeing the nice speakers behind the grill. Besides, I had to make sure my kids didn't kick out my speakers.

Who sells 1.5" spacers? I cant find any.
Tried to make my own from wood, but not working out well.

At the time I had found some on ebay. Now all I can find are the 1.5" thick 6x9 ones.

If you make those custom pods, is there a way to put some speaker grilles?

Can you make pods for 5" speakers?

I could probably do thse pods in 1/4" ABS, then cover in either Black 'Glass or Billet-Proof 'Glass for around $40 a pair...then leave them uncut so you can put either a 6.5" or 5" speaker in them.

That sound alright?

I just did my doors and replaced with 6.5" Infinity 6012si. It was relatively painless, just used the 1" spacer as indicated in this post. One thing I had to do was offset the speaker mount so it was moved more towards the bottom corner because the grill (which is the door panel) wouldn't fit back on perfectly if they were mounted perfectly centered of the hole cut out. Infinity provides a mounting ring to allow this which can be easily trimmed down to size. So basically you don't need to have new grills made; keeping things looking as stock as possible is a winner in my book.

They look good but with out some kind of cage around them my friends and there fat feet would break my speakers. so is there something to protect them?

Some come with covers, look for speakers that do.

You can purchase grills from sounddomain aswell, however they are cheap looking and the grill that come with some speakers are stylish and dont cover the whole speaker.

So I just want to be sure, when you use a 1" spacer to install 6.5" speakers in the doors, the door pannels will still fit normally?

Has anyone put 6.5" speakers in the front doors and used the stock door grilles? I don't want speakers hanging out of the door panel, I want it to look stock.

He's running Sony XPlod 6 1/2" 270Watt [55Watt RMS] as per his car domain. Also, if the speakers are installed in this picture, it looks like the door panels have not been modified, well, aside from paint.
