      That is true, I love the sound, but at the same time, they are good for basic daily driver type comps. If I wanted to go serious for SPL comps, I would look into DD or maybe MMats, maybe even some L7s. For me though, its more about having fun than competing. I must admit though, taking home a trophy did feel pretty good

      hahaha yea it always does, i have a slew of trophies from that crap, but as long as your out there learning and having fun thats what its all about, just remember to always change something every time you have an opportunity on the meter.. sometimes youll lose DB others youll gain

      once I get my aveo back on the road, I am going to upgrade to 2 JL 12W3s. Ive already got 2 JL slash 250/1v1s (black edition) so each 12 will have its own amp. theoretically, Im doubling the power which will increase db, along with increasing cone area (2 12s vs 2 10s) which should also increase db

      JL Audio products can post large numbers if you are willing to invest the time and money. The reason many competitors do not use the products very often in spl competitions because there are other product lines that can perform better with a lower initial investment.

      JL has great output for the money but, they are more SQ than SPL. My experience though 2 10s off of 250 watts, my meter reading is respectable.

      reaching large numbers on the Db scale with any brand depends on the driver(s), the vehicle, the electrical, the enclosure, the deadening, and the ambient air temp for starters. All drivers (subwoofer(s)) can produce high Db numbers the real difference comes in producing high Db numbers with clarity over a large spectrum or just on a single note(s) - very specific freq. range.

      @paulsaveo
      Were the drivers in a tuned enclosure, was the vehicle deadened, did the vehicle have the electrical to produce the tones needed to put up large Db numbers?

      optima red top battery, not even a big three upgrade, stock alt (90amp), the sealed box was built to JL spec (not neccesarily an SPL enclosure) I more so, wanted something that sounded good. I never even broke the DMM out to tune the amp, I just adjusted the gain by ear to an output I was happy with. In the beginning though, I started with scosche brand RCAs and Scosche brand 8ga power and ground. it sounded good, but sometimes I get into a picky mood, and one day I decided to upgrade the wiring, switched to a JL 8ga kit and JL RCAs. just that alone made a HUGE difference in sound quality and output LOL. I just happened to come across an add for a stereo comp one day and decided "why not" and ended up with 133.9db at the driver side kick panel under the dash. I was pleased especially knowing that the JL 10W1v2 subs I have are not known for SPL. I was running 2 of the 4 ohm W1s with a final impedance of 2 ohms. Im trying to sell my car right now so all my equipment is out and resting in my garage. after I sell my car, Im using the money to buy a 97 toyota 4runner, in the 4runner iwill be installing 4 JL 10W1s, 2 JL 250/1 slash amps, JL C2 650-SI components and a JL 300/4 slash amp. I am going to upgrade all the wiring for this build, the 4runner has a bigger alt. Im looking forward to this next install

      Did you deaden your vehicle? You may want to look into DLS or Arc Audio Amplifiers for your next build. Great SQ and build quality.

      the only area I had problems with from rattle was the rear hatch door, i under coated the innside of the hatch shell then went back through with expanding foam. when I start on the 4runner build, since my build wont be extravogant, I will sound deaden as I need. the equipment I already have so, for the moment I dont need amps, I currently have 3 JL audio amps (2 250/1s and a 300/4) and in my garage I already have the 4 JL 10w1s, i will need to have a box built. I just dont have the time nor the tools to build one my self. I am going with sealed. I know I can grab a few more db with ported but, I am doing a budget build, and also a ported enclosure for 4 10s would take up more cargo space than I want it too.

      I would love to go all out on a build, I just cant afford it, It has taken me 3 years to get what I have. My wife does not like stereos so it is hard to justify car audio products.
