      anyone thought about custom boxes

im going to be building a custom box for the aveo. it will go right in front of the rear seat and extend 6 inches towards the front and go all the way across, even over the hump to fit a shallow mount sub on each side. my question is has anyone else thought about this and besides it really wouldnt take up much space because your feet go under the front seats.

let me know what you guys think of this and also if you have thought about it yourself and if anyone would want the instructions, measurements, and diagrams for one of their on.

I beg to differ. Bandpass boxes boom a lot, but the sound quality is lost because of the amplification of the tuned frequencies. Sealed box have a higher sound quality but don't rattle your teeth as much. Hopefully he will seal it. Free air subs are the worst setup IMO.

I like the idea and I really want to see this. He might be limited to smaller 8" or less subs and will need to use grills. Unless he wants someone to accidentally kick the subs in.

Re: anyone thought about custom boxes

I am working on a custom box for the trunk of my car. As i am building it, I will be taking pictures of it. Pretty simple design, it will be set up for 1 8" sub in the trunk. the box, however will be quite large, 10" tall, 12" deep at the base, 10" deep at the top in a backwards wedge style, and 37" wide. Trick is, that only 14" if that 37 will actually be the box (ported enclosure approx. .67 Cu ft) The rest of the 37" area (23") will be a storage area with a door and all. The goal is to make it fit seemlessly in with the trunk, noting that I am aslo doing a false deck with a door for the spare tire. Carpeted to match the trunk, and maybe later, re-coating everything in the trunk with leather to match my interior. When all is done, in palce, and checked for sound, I will be posting not only the pictures of the project, but the plans and how-to in the proper area.
Till then, just plugging away at it..

Too hard for my liking due to sealed enclosure and small cubic volume. This is only 1.5 cubic feet after deducting the magnet cone volume. Spend $15 US for the MDF boards, but $30 US for the fire cloth wrapping. Took up too much space in my boot, so have since shifted the subwoofer into my spare tyre well.
