      Audio Wiring Questions

I think I am going to install my third sound system in the aveo, I really did not know what I was doing the last two times, but it worked so it was all good. I threw out some harness thing I used to plug my sub/subs into my headunit (I think they are called RCA wires or something). My main question is how would I go about wiring up the subs this time without that harness? I remember seeing someone wire the subs up to one of the rear speakers to get the signal, can I do something like that.

I am also not sure what I want to buy, I just want a single 12" sub with a smaller amp, nothing too fancy.

Also, besides some speaker wire, what gauge wire should I use to power the amp/and to ground it as well?

You'll lose a lot of quality doing that. Also, if you lower the bass going to the rear speakers, you'll lower your sub as well.

Run another RCA cable and do it right, then use the crossovers for all your other speakers to block the bass going to them to clean up the mids and highs.

I would use a RCA Cable, but I tossed out the harness on my radio and can not find another, unless there is another way I could use it, I would prefer that anyways haha

Just use RCA's. As for power/ground wires, it depends on how many watts you plan on running in your system. A generally safe gauge is 4.

Yeah I used 4 gauge wire on my last two set ups, I just do not know how to use the RCA's without the harness for my radio, unless I need to splice them into the stock harness somewhere?

Looking around, it looks like I should use a line out converter so I can use the RCA's as usual since my head unit technically does not have RCA outputs anymore lol, where/how is the best way to wire one of them up on the aveo?

I gota sweet deal, this guy sold me a 12" pioneer in a ported box, and two decent amps for $60. Everything works good, I just now need to figure out how to wire up the line out converter (LOC) so I can use the RCA's.

      Bumpppppp

So I started messing with everything until 12:30am and nothing, I got an LOC but it is weird, it shows me connecting all four speakers into the box, then having the RCAs connected on the other end, which says (right front) and (left front) on one RCA and the other says (right rear) and (left rear) on the other RCA, I also used some of the wires that are between the radio and aveo harness, should I try to use the wires that are going into the speaker(s) instead?

Ah... A LOC! Those things are a PAIN in the neck! You're going to have to tap into the factory wiring behind the radio. You'll need inputs for all 4 channels, so the RCA outputs work(wires that are labeled front right, front left, rear right, rear left). For this you'll need to tap into the wires behind the radio, I recommend using T-Taps. A remote turn on wire also should be included on the LOC's RCA side so your amps will turn on.

I see, now, on the LOC I have, there is no remote on the LOC itself (the radio still has the wire though, I think). I will work on that next week, now two questions, the first, how can I check if an amp has power? My second is if I can not wire up the remote wire with the LOC, will the LOC still work right ( I have many 12v switches in my car that I can use if that is okay).
