As I said in my earlier post, the dealer said I could give him $700 and my old radio and he would give me a refurbished radio.
To me, this means the old radio gets shipped to a repair center where the problem gets fixed and then the radio gets shipped back out to the next guy like me for another $700 bucks. Sounds like a great gig if you can get it.
Somewhere out there in the world is a service person that works on these every day. That person has access to tech data that tells him what the error codes mean which assists them in making what is likely a simple fix. Every time he repairs one of these which probably takes him 5-10 minutes, he probably thinks, what a rip off to the end customer. I wish I had access to this person or the tech data he uses to figure it out. I have a tech background and if armed with the right tech info, I'm sure I could fix this myself. I still have yet to get a cleaning kit and I plan to get one today. I doubt it will do anything but I figure what the heck, it’s a $5 investment that may pay off. What I would like to really have is the tech data that explains "File Check Error 3". I’ve owned many vehicle and I really don’t like to replace things on a vehicle that are not OEM. However, if I can’t fix this I will buy an aftermarket unit and forget it.

Disconnect the power to the unit by removing it and then you can use a cleaning kit on it like you were going to try. That would be the cheapest and easiest way to do a quick troubleshoot on it otherwise it could be something mechanically wrong with the unit. If that'd be the case then it'd be cheaper to go with an aftermarket radio which gives you endless options starting at like 100$ for parts and a cheap radio.
Or if you'd like to get another factory radio they are available on eBay at ~$55 and up.

Worst case amazon has single din decks for $50. Harness is 12, install kit @$20. Just an idea. Jump up to $200 you can get a double din touch screen!

I think this would look stock installed, or at least not aftermarket to the regular passenger.
