Custom Cell Phone Mount Center Dash

      I'M BACK

After much work and being a political junkie, I am back on the board and offer that snarky helpful advice that makes me famous.

I am a big fan of this mount. I have them in both cars.

However I am not happy that the mount does not extend far enough off the dash. Besides most mounts never come a good place for use in a car while driving. I had it over the left center air vent and it was annoying. The mount lasted about a year there. It would have been much nicer if I could get it away from the air vents and up.

So here is my process and custom design. First I needed to make a mold to fit over the air vents. So I used packing tape and created a "release" mold. then I laid fiberglass on top of that.

The two layers of fiberglass was not enough for strength. So I separated the next layer by adding cardboard cut to shape and scored to fit the curve.

I trimmed the excess fiberglass, glued the vertical mounting surface, and started the bondo process. I need to get more bondo as it's been clumpy.

I like that, don't worry about the clumps you can sand it out. I've stickerbombed my car with tire stickersName: IMG_1836.jpg

the clumps where a problem in getting a smooth application. I tossed that can of bondo and got a new one. It has made application much easier.

Stickerbomb has it's own beauty. It's not for me mostly because I would spend hours trying to remove bubbles. Nice job

      OK, the last steps
      bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/bondo/sand/prime/

And when you get tired of that. Put on final coat. This is the current status

No, it's not perfect. I need to give up on plastic applicators. Need some thin metal ones to go over fine pinholes. I tried mounting it on my air vents and the curve is not right on the bottom and not allowing the double side tape have enough surface area to stick.

      back to sanding....
