Is it difficult to install 6.5" speakers in the front doors?
Hello!, I have an Aveo Hatchback 2007, which front door speakers size is just 4" as you already know.
I read on this forum that a 6.5" speaker may fit if they are shallow depth and with an 1" spacer, although I didn't find any detailed info on how to install them.
I want to know if anyone of you have done this, and please tell me how did you make it.
I'm thinking of buying these speakers: Polk Audio DB651 along with Scosche SS65 1-Inch Universal for 5+-Inch or 6+-Inch Speaker Spacer (http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-SS65-1...3354639&sr=1-2).
Do you think this spacer will do?
Thank you in advance!
Re: Is it difficult to install 6.5" speakers in the front doors?
its pretty simple actually, you take off the door panel. the stock 4" speaker is held in by a houseing mounted to the door just remove the speaker and the housing its in. now in the original place of the housing the spacer should fit. the only thing is the OEM housing screws are offset weird so my spacer is only held in by 3 screws but i've had no trouble with it.

Thank you for replying!
I read an user on this forum saying that you have to use self tapping screws 8-[
Could you make a photo to your speaker? I want to have an idea of how it'll look like. I couldn't find any photo on internet =(
Thanks again!!
Re: Is it difficult to install 6.5" speakers in the front doors?
it just used the original screws but like i said there's only 3 holding it in which works very well. and i wish i did take pictures when i took it off but i never did sorry about that.

Re: Is it difficult to install 6.5" speakers in the front doors?
Question....with those speakers which looks like ones I got. Can u still put down your front windows all the way?
Re: Is it difficult to install 6.5" speakers in the front doors?
Yes, the spacer allow you to roll down the windows and still put the stock door panel on without modifying the panel.
Re: Is it difficult to install 6.5" speakers in the front doors?
i used self taping screws because i wanted 4 screws in there and factory screws were too short for the spacers i had to use.. ive since changed out the speaker and installed even deeper 6.5"s and dynamated around the speakers..

Well dont you need an amp for those 6 inchers? or does that only involve subs? cuz ive thought about going out buying some 6 inchers my self for my 08 sedan.

They will work off your factory deck, they are not exactly high end. I have a Clarion in my car with hands free bluetooth for my phone. Great price for a lot of features. Heres the link to my install. I actually just moved my mic from the corner to come out from the dome light last night.

I have an '09 and I was wondering if there was any interference between the door panel and the front of the speaker? This definitely looks like something I'm going to do. Thanks.

I was just talking to a kicker guy about this 2 days ago. Unfortunately he wasn't familiar enough with the aveo's to have an answer. Has anyone gone with a deeper 6.5'' speaker and modified the door panel to mount it?

the deeper the speaker the more of a spacer you will need.. or you will need a custom mounting bracket
Re: Is it difficult to install 6.5" speakers in the front doors?
I was talking about taking out the normal speaker cover that is built into the door panel, not the mount for the door itself and putting a speaker there. You would see the speaker sure, but It would allow a deeper speaker to be put in.
I will look at it here in a minute and see if it's all solid of if that cover comes out of the door panel.

This is the piece I was talking about, Unfortunately it is a part of the door panel, and not screwed into place.
Has anyone tried cutting this out to make a custom speaker mount that fills in the gap or attaches to the door panel itself?

the speaker grill your talking about it made into the fender and will not just "pop" out if you wanted to do something like that you would have to prolly fiberglass over it and make it a solid piece to mount your speaker into
Re: Is it difficult to install 6.5" speakers in the front doors?
Right, so no one else on here has done it yet? figures, now I just need some money, and a really good fiberglass guy. . .
