      Interior door handles peelin

My 08 aveo driver side interior door handle is chrome plated and has started to peel. Being heavily plated it's become stiff razorblades and is finger cutting hazard (literally). I was looking for suggestions on how to deal with it since there's nothing structurally wrong with them I don't really need to replace them so im wondering of an effective method to remove the chrome easily without beating them up?

I can tell you a mixture of muriatic acid and water will take off chrome. The acid should be 30-40 percent of the mix. But that would require you taking them off of course.

Hmm assuming it would be safe on the plastic you have an ideal of how long it would take for dissolution to complete its pretty thick? I dont feel like waiting days without a handle :P

They're only about $20 each to replace. I'd tape them up until you've got the cash.

Aww where's your sense of adventure in highschool chemistry
I plan on stripping all 4 handles so $10ish for a gal of acid is more friendly to the wallet to take a whack at the old college try than $80 for 4. I also have an old plating supply laying around so I can speed the process up a bit, I'll add it to the todo list on a weekend and follow back up.

if you strip off the chrome, follow up and do pastic dip on the handles.

If its peeling it should work fairly quickly. However, muriatic acid reacts with certain plastics, so use with caution.

Im not fluent in car paint talk but isnt plastic dip a long term temporary paint or am I thinking of plasti-dip?
I was just going to shoot acrylic with the airbrush and add a clear coat.

well I would agree with you, that's a better solution. You will need to prime the plastic with a plastic specific primer.
