      Interior vent upgrade!

Well, last Thursday I went to a salvage yard a little ways away from home in the hope of not having GM pretty much BANKRUPT me on replacing my catalytic converters; unfortunately, the salvage yard FAILED to tell me that because they have emissions testing in the county they are located in, they aren't allowed to sell used converters. (f@$K you MARTA!!) BUT, as the pictures above and below are about to show you, I DID NOT leave empty handed!

This Summit White 2011 Sedan (A moment of silence please to respect one of Scootaloo's fallen younger sisters) which was pretty much fully loaded with the exception of OnStar, the 6 disc Changer with XM radio, the Remote Audio Controls, the DIC, and Leather Seats, was only one row from the entrance to the yard. Unfortunately, as you can tell by the pretty much decimated front end, and lack of an engine; this one has few Powertrain parts left to give. But the Tan interior, with the exception of the deployed airbags, was in pretty good shape. As you can tell from the first picture, I liberated the chrome surrounded air vents, and put them in Scootaloo! I also found the first couple of pieces for my next major upgrade: Fog Lamps!

Has nothing to do with the county, really - thank the Federal EPA for their rules:

      https://www3.epa.gov/otaq/cert/factshts/catcvrts.pdf

See Section 5 on Page 3 - unless you can have the efficiency of the converter tested and confirmed, it's a violation of the Clean Air Act (not just for coal fired power plants anymore, Toto). It also makes the salvage yard liable for a violation if they were to sell it.

Unfortunately, that means you either are stuck with the OEM, or see if you can find a aftermarket that will fit in it's place - Magnaflow makes some small units that a skilled welder could probably fit in there...

and thanks to my WONDERFUL State of Tennessee, having THE HIGHEST Combined sales tax IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY (9.75%) that puts me at $2,522 to replace BOTH Converters, at GM Prices. Even the parts houses are pretty much on par with Dealer prices! thankfully a friend of mine reminded me of Rock Auto. the prices are MUCH more Reasonable at $504 for both.

Holy poop! That reminds me why I don't live in TN anymore - I lived in Jackson for a couple years.

Rock is a considerable savings at least, and I've had really good luck with their customer service over the years.
