      Just got my aveo tonight!

Okay everyone, my name is tony. This is my first thread (yay). I had to purchase a new car today as my geo tracker was rear ended saturday night with my girl and i in the car. Anyways so i bought the 05 aveo. i thought it was an 04 somehow and when i googled 2004 chevy aveo issues i didnt see the failing timing belt. anyways i spoke to the guy i bought it from and he says last year he purchased the gates deluxe kit (includes water pump?) and had all the parts installed. okay first, a bit about the car, its an 04, has 56000 original miles. automatic. no leaks. okayy heres

question number one: is the gates a decent timing belt kit? are the tensioner and idle pulley metal by chance???

question two: when should i replace it again?

question 3: what other little things should i look out for?

question 4: before i ask let me first say that i appreciate quality sound from my speakers. I have two 6x9 type a 5 way speakers at 500 watts each (pioneer) that i would like to stuff in that car somewhere. wheres the best place?

question 5: i also have a ts-sw3002 shallow mount 12 inch i wana put in the back. is there a plug and play harness to change out the deck unit?

question 6: am i going to lose dash lights/electrical funtions if i use said plug and play harness to set up an after market head unit?

question 7: has anyone tried putting 8 or 10 subs in the rear door panels? id like a couple of those for my rock music. the 12 just cant keep up or sounds wayyyy too bassy for rock music.

question 8:are there any interior upgrade parts to help ease the install of the bigger speakers? i dont want to botch the interior of such a decent little car. I guess i should give myself more credit, i do good work but i dont want to have to alter the interior if i could just change it out with premolded parts.
      quest

pics coming soon of my lil chevy tomato. (girlfriend already named it....)

Ok, this is audio, video, interior so I will try to help with that part of it
Is your car hatchback or sedan?
#4- the rear speakers are stock 4x6 on my hatchback, guessing that a 6x9 replacement fit would be tough. There may be a bracket you can buy? There also was the rear seatbelt retraction unit in the way of the speakers in the back, upsizing may not allow the magnet to have any room.
#5+6- I just wrote up a thread on installing an aftermarket head unit, read through it and it may help you make your decisions. My stereo had a wire that connected to turn on an external amplifier when the receiver was turned on. There are RCA plugs on the back of must units specifically designated for subwoofer outputs.
#7- I would recommend against doing that. Subwoofers need some sort of enclosure to really make it operate effectively. My hatchback has 4" rounds in the doors, with not much depth or area to mess around with.
#8- I've seen some mods in this forum where people put 6" speakers up fron on the dash. Search around and you will find a few other good modding threads.

Good luck, let us know how you make out with your audio system!

Thanks alot Stumpy! okay lets start with the car, it is indeed a hatch back. yeah i see theres 4x6 in the rear and yeah the magnet is ridiculous on these speakers, im sure i can figure something out tho (hopefully) i will look around for your thread about installing a head unit because thats by far the first thing on my list. (not sure how to navigate yet but im sure il find it)
as far as the 8 inch subs in the door panels, i saw these pioneer 8 inch shallows that could either be sealed or free air subs. idk much about free air so i need to look further into this. but they were only 2 and 5/8 deep subs. pretty thin! might have potential, whats your thoughts? also what do you mean 4" rounds? like you mean 4" speakers? forgive me but you arent saying you have a 4 inch sub right?

Not 4" subs. There are plain stock 4" speakers in the doors. I'm not sure if theres room for 8" where the stock speakers go. Besides, the audio signals are not for subs, they are full frequency signals. If you want subs, get a sub amp with built in crossovers that will isolate the bass frequencies to the subs. You might want to talk to an audio specialist about your system, you may be over thinking

The biggest you can go for speakers inside the doors is shallow mount 6 1/2"ers with 1" spacers. (If you want them mounted in the same position as factory. IE not cutting up the door panel and mounting them externally.) It's tight in there. You'd have to cut metal if you want anything bigger, besides that with a 1" spacer at most your speakers can only be 1 3/4" deep. Max. Or the window will interfere. That's what I did.

Thanks a lot for the info. I am going to talk with some audio guys and see what they can come up with (if anything). Much appreciated!
