Larger Alternator

Hello everyone. I started my car audio level off little, with only one 640 watt peak amp pushing a sub, and component speakers.

I then upgraded to a different sub, with a second amp, that runs at 600 watts rms (really, about 1000). The old amp is powering my components, still.

Then I really dropped the ball, adding another sub into the equation. The 600 watt amp isn't quite fit for a setup like this, so I have on order a 2500 watt amp from American Bass.

Now, I'm just really unsure on how well the alternator can handle all of this. Granted I wont be using all of that power, but still. Has anyone upgraded their alternator, and to what? It's a very vague question, but I'm honestly pretty stumped and I just don't want to fry any of my electrical.

edit: I should mention, this nonsense is taking place in a 2009 pontiac g3.

Your stock electrical should be able to support about an additional 600wrms (30 amp reserve x 12V) safely. Any wattage draw above that and you will need to upgrade your electrical setup. An High Output alt can give you the additional amperage you need to run the system you want or you can run the equivalent amperage in batteries.

Depending on which 2500watt amp from American Bass you may need anywhere (1250/12 = 104.166) from 70 to 90 in additional amperage to run the amp safely.

I never went through and sourced out a bigger alternator for the 04 aveo I used to have but, I do know it needed one BAD. I had 2 amps in the aveo, a JL Audio 300/4 only using 2 channels (roughly 150 watts when cranked loud) and also a JL Audio 250/1 (roughly 250 watts when cranked loud). both of the amps were the slash V1 series, which will produce full power between 11 and 14 volts, and full power between 1.5 and 4 ohms. my head lights looked like strobe lights at night when I would turn it up.

This is exactly my problem. Only I'm running closer to 2000 watts. :mad:

ya i have been wondering the same thing but im running around 3400 watts and looking to add another 4 channel amp. the only thing that is stopping my car from shuttin down at stop lights is my cap and extra battery! :tongue6:

Did you ever get a bigger alternator. I'm looking to push around 2k watts RMS through my Aveo....how did your's handle that kind of a load?
