      Re: Mobile Electronic thoughts

Personal thought on Audio. It should sound good, be level, and be invisible.

Any idiot can put either big speakers or many speakers in a car.
I see hundreds of cars roaming about town where you can hear the bass from a mile away. Big whoop! The deal is, that is all there is. And more doesn't always mean better. More wattage doesn't make it sound good. Being loud isn't the answer. Any audiophile will tell you the same thing. We don't upgrade our sound systems to make them louder, we do so to make them better. Extra volume is just the side effect.
Level, clear, balanced, even if enhanced, to me is the key.

Second thing is invisible. All the great sound in the world does no good if it looks like a bag of dung when it is all installed. The true beauty of an awesome sound system is when no one can see it. If I can mount my new speakers in the original places, it is the best thing. I don't like cutting holes, I don't like everyone in a parking lot to see what is inside my car. I want it to look perfectly stock, look perfectly original.
I don't use 10's if 8's will do the job. I don't use 1,000 watts if 100 watts will give me the desired effect. I am not trying to prove anything to anyone, in the end I am the one who will be driving around in it, so the only person I really have to impress is me. And personally, I am more impressed by quality that quantity.

      Just a thought[attachment=0:2d1bseq4]1.jpg[/attachment:2d1bseq4]

I really like the MTX thunder series, including the thunder elite amps. for wiring, I prefer Tsunami, but I don't have much knowledge of many wires. I've heard other subs and amps, and from everything I've seen and heard, I like MTX Sub/amp combos.
for speakers, I would say Polk Audio, very clear and crisp sound.
and a head unit, I would say... I honestly don't know, I have a basic sony unit in my car and does the job just fine.

A - performance - obviously, your system has to thump.
C -Aesthetics- it shouldn't look like a simple throw a box in with the wires and all showing, make it look nice
B - Price - it is important but if you're into this, you should be prepared to pay some good money.

not saying its the best, but thats what I prefer. for the best, be prepared to spend a lot of time and money.

and what I look for in a system is of course... none other than SOUND. thats what it is there for, and made for. not so much bass that your rear view mirror falls off. but a good amount, to really feel like you are there with the music. for me, a single 12" sub running 400 watts RMS is a great thing to have. plenty of bass and it does rattle my panels but I can still easily hear all the highs of the song. a good solid mix of all the frequencies.

Polk speakers are great, so are the infinity reference series. At the moment, I am seriously looking at some MB Quarts for the front and rear speakers in my car, because they already make 4" component sets, that will mount in the door and in the columns not haiving to use spacers or any of that.
They also make 6-3/4" speakers that should fit in the rear deck without having to make adjustments.
Not to mention, MB Quart has a history of awesome sound, which is what I am really looking for.

      Re: Mobile Electronic thoughts

I have played with many of the name brands out there, and can say that I have found what I consider to be the best setup, for sound quality, and reasonable price.

      HU: Pioneer Premier 490MP
Front: Diamond Audio M series compnenets
      Rear: Sony Xplod xs-d170si Components
Rockford fosgate amps, and Punch 10" Subs

And I agree with Ah-Vee-Oh? stock looking is the way to go

All great Choices. Poineer units are great. Little known fact, that for many years, Pioneer was the manufacturer of Delco head units that came stock in Chevrolet. I am not sure who makes them now.
Diamond Audio and Sony make great speakers as well.
I am not sure about Fosgate, since they went retail. I haven't been impressed with the quality since they were a "stereo shop only" product. Of course, I guess showing my age, that was when they still had the original Punch 45, Punch 75, and Punch 150's. I remember powering a 15" in my old Geo off of a punch 45, and still shaking everything around me.
Or in my old Subaru, I had 2 Fosgate series 1 (paper cone) 10's running off a Coustic 240 and not only shaking things in my car, but in my neighbors house. Great times those were. Probably the cause of my partial hearing loss now..
I am using a Fosgate in my car right now. We took a Bazooka tube, yanked the 8" bazooka driver out of it, and replaced it with a punch 8". Made a lot of difference in the sound of the car.
But you know, like always, it is a work in progress...
