it sounds like the signal/ reference is either too low, or just the wrong voltages for the aftermarket gauge.
The gauges should come with kits to compensate, (less powerful resistor) or you might need another wire.
When you say another wire do you mean from the wires that already exisist.. I.e it could be another one of them, or that i would need nanother wire completely like some sort of kit thats reads speeds and converts it in to a signal that the gauge can read?

Ive just noticed in another thread that you mentioned its only 50% of the signal but this was with refference to a 2010 model. Is the same applicable to the 2005 model i have. (i use to have a 2004 and then purchased a 2005 manual) lol.
