      Polk Audio and new stereo

Hi, I am thinking of outfitting my 2009 Aveo5 with all Polk Audio and a new Car Stereo Receiver. No plans for amp or sub right now due to space limitations. Thinking of ordering the following:

      Front Doors:
      Polk Audio db401 (4-inch)
      Polk Audio db401 4" 2-way Car/Marine Speakers (db 401)

      - or -

      Polk Audio db651s (6 1/2 - 6-3/4)
      Polk Audio db651s (db 651s) 6-1/2" / 6-3/4" 2-way db Car Speakers

      Rear Panels:
      Polk Audio db461 (4x6)
      Polk Audio db461 4" x 6" 2-way Speakers (Marine Certified) db

Will the 6 1/2 sound better and fit in the front doors with 1 inch spacer. Site says 6 1/2 - 6 3/4?

Do baffles really make the sound better?

Any recommendations for a stereo under $150? Something with "high pass" filter, sd or usb for jump drive. I have On Star and will never use it. Don't really care for xm. I listen to my music either SD or USB jump drive.

Someone told me that Pioneer has clean loud sound but Sony unit at store seemed way louder and was clean without an amp. Will purchase everything online anyways cause prices are way lower than local. Just looking for decent sound for myself. Any installation links would also be great - mainly getting rear panels and door apart.

      Thanks

What sound are you looking to achieve? What type(s) of music do you listen to?

Sound Deadener will be more effective than speaker baffles. You may want to look into a Kenwood or Clarion Head-unit they both are good quality.

IMO I would suggest investing in a nice pair of 6.5" coaxial(s) for the front, deadener and decent head-unit. Rear Speakers are unnecessary. When you go to a concert all of the speakers are in front of you, so I suggest keep all of your sound in front it will sound better.

Thanks Aveosummit! I mainly like 90's alternative but listen to almost anything. Don't want car rockin' subs. Will the Polk Audio db651s (6 1/2 - 6-3/4) coaxial speakers fit in front? They are a little on the large size, going to add rear speakers too anyway. Some on this forum have 6.5's in the rear but can't see that fitting the Aveo"5" without making custom bracket. I will go "all" 6.5 or 5 1/4 Polks if they fit, I know 4inch will fit rear with free bracket from Crutchfield. My Head unit will either be Clarion or Kenwood as you mentioned.

Oops! I read through some previous threads and 6.5 speakers will fit "rear" panels of sedan not my Aveo5 rear panels. Any tested/tried shallow mount speakers for the front doors? I know the Infinity Reference 6032si have been installed on the Aveo5 but have received some negative feedback in regards to sound. Don't want to order 6.5's and have it not fit.

No real budget just like the sound of Polk. Just time and space restriction in regards to adding sub(s), amp, wiring.... Just simple deck and speaker swap.

If you like the sound of polk, look into dls reference series, dls x-program and GermanMaestro Concept line (2 ohm speakers), or Epic Series all sets sound great off of deck power but pure eargasm on amplified power.

Thanks again! Seeing that you mentioned "pure eargasm" I am will be looking into these speakers and maybe add an amp under the front seat. I will check for Canadian friendly dealers that may offer hassle free shipping
