How does one get to the shift lever bulb? Looks like the trim piece should just pop up but w/o forcing it, doesn't seem like that is the way to get to it?? Suggestions?

Having a similiar question due to a suspected blown bulb under the Automatic shifter
Referring this thread for now

On the automatic mine was a 2009 G3 same as 2009 Aveo 5 you pull straight up on the trim around the E brake there are 2 tabs that point straight up be care full they are fragile them pull off the cover on the handle towards the button then remove the screw under the back cup holder then the 2 screws on the sides up front then you can remove the console little tricky geting to to clear the front console then you can either use needle nose pliers to twist it out of socket or unbolt the shifter 4 thre are 2 wire harness holders in the housing that need to be removed use small needle nose pliers to squeeze the tabs underneath to remove
I finally got to changing the bulb, what a PITA. I was able to remove the bulb with a long needle nose thru the access port on the drivers side...but.I wasn't able to lock the bulb assy in, I got it inserted into the shifter assy but no matter what I couldn't turn it to lock it in...so I just put a dab of RTV/Silicone to hold it in place.
I did end up unscrewing console and lifting it up slightly to move it up to get to the bulb a little easier.
I put in a led T5 tried the ones that have a led on top and on the side way too bright went to one that only hads them on the side still on the bright side but not as blinding as the one with top and side leds
