Single or Double DIN???

Hi. Is the 2006 model standard radio/cd player a single DIN, I assume it is. But with the big empty space below it, where I put like 20 CD's, can I have a double DIN unit installed? With a special kind of 'faceplate'? Or will only a single DIN fit? If so, the next question is moot.

I see a lot of double DINs that have video screens,usually 5-9in, that will play DVDS. BUT i have always heard that the screen wont stay out unless the car is in park or neutral. Is there a way to override that 'protective' feature, so i can watch/hear a DVD as I drive? And then have it hide when I turn off the radio,like it is suppose to. Is there a certain wire, or wires, that I could tell the person that is installing a unit with a video screen in it, to not connect or disconnect?? Will a audio installer usually do that, or are they all 'law abiding' and not do it, so I cant watch a DVD,except when parked...how dull!

Lastly, will putting in a better receiver make the radio sound better,or must i replace the speakers to get better sound? I know it sounds kind of dumb, but if the receiver is junk,I would think the reception is junk,so a better receiver would give me better sound. Trying to not invest in 4 speakers,rather get a double DIN with video:) if i can get it installed to work as I drive.

I take it you are new to the world of aftermarket stereos lol. The factory radio is double din, it sounds like you already have an aftermarket radio. New dash mounting kits for single din radios in a double din spot come with a little compartment thing that goes under the radio and I don't know what you mean by "the screen won't stay out" on double din touchscreen radios the screen IS the radio and doesn't go away. Only single din radios that have a fold out screen do that. And as far as watching DVDs while driving, there is a wire that goes to the parking brake or something so you can only watch a movie with the parking brake up. I have heard you can just wire in a toggle instead though. And as far as better sound goes, a good aftermarket radio will sound better than factory, but I prefer to start with the speakers

I have the cheapest standard radio/cd player that came with the car when I bought it. It has the big empty space below it now, I have like 20 cd's in it. That is why I am asking if it can take a double DIN if nessasary for a radio with a video screen. IF a new radio with a video screen needs a double DIN space. I assume it needs to be a double DIN space,to make room for the video screen. All the radios I have seen that have video screens look very big, like 5in tall, the one in the car now, from GM is like 2 in tall. That is why I assume it is a single DIN. It is the standard radio with a cd player from GM.

Guess I have to ask an installer if they would not connect this connector to the parking brake, so that the screen would stay out, until I shut it off.

It should be double din there. Can you take a picture? And they make single din radios with video screens that fold out.

I dont know how to post pictures, It is the cheap standard GM AM/FM /CD radio with the big empty space below it. I take it your 2010 wheel covers do not match my 2006 covers,since you havent replied to my email asking that?
