Slightly depressing news for 2010 gauge lights

It's not as easy to change them as previous AVEO's. I took the liberty of trying to figure it out by myself.

So here it is, the 2010 gauges. As simple as can be:

Flip it over, and try replacing the bulbs like you did on typical, previous AVEO's. But it turns out, those three bulbs control the turn signals and the notification box (door ajar, low gas, etc.):

So I looked thoroughly to see where the green light that illuminates the gauges comes from:

And to my dismay, the lights for the gauges are soldered on:

Sad news for a guy who hates that awful green light. I'm going to try finding a piece of film to put in-front of the LED to hopefully portray a different color. Soldering a different LED would be far too difficult and the juice wouldn't be worth the squeeze. I also would probably screw it up somehow.

Yes! I saw that when I was browsing the forum a week ago. It's really sweet. But I want to try to do some modifying myself before I drop $100 bucks.

True, But you could get the $9 Lighting kit and just have a local store replace the LEDS for you

Is the LED's just limited to the 2010 and newer gauges? Does the 2009 instrument panel have regular bulbs that can be replaced?

I'm 90% sure the 2009 is the same as 2010...maybe take yours apart and check and let us know. If you have an extra 3 minutes in your busy schedule

The 2010 model doesn't look all that different from the 2009 model in many aspects. So I would assume that both are the same. But those custom gauges look awesome. If I had the money, I'd seriously consider spending the money for one. I do know that if I ever worked on the car that I want to, I'd definately order the custom gauge for it.

That is why we hardly get any aftermarket parts

Hard to do that, considering mine is a 2010.

All I was suggesting is if there was a difference between the 2009 and 2010, that an option for 2010 owners would be to pick up a 2009 cluster from a salvage yard and go that route.

If someone has a 2009 cluster and is willing to take a peek, that would be good to know.
