time to upgrade the highs
my system is all new again, top of a line sony deck with 4 volt pre outs( fronts rears and sub rca outputs), 450watts RMS rockford fosgate amp, and a 10" mtx sledgehammer thunder 7500 (400 watts RMS) in a sealed box 0.75 cu ft. sound alot better the 2 10" kicker in a kicker ported box i had.
now for the fronts i have 2 choices for front door speakers, polk DB521 5-1/4" (45watts RMS) 40$ or phoenix gold octane R 6-1/2" (60 watts RMS) 30$
which ones should i get?

Re: time to upgrade the highs
I think a lot of folks are out of town for the Holiday weekend.
Re: time to upgrade the highs
do they have a labor day in canada? i don know much about audio but heres what i suggest, buy both, try out both sets for about a week each, then take back whichever u didnt like.
Re: time to upgrade the highs
i can't try them out, and return then.
Re: time to upgrade the highs
Given the following:
db521-Polymer/Mica Composite cone with rubber surround, silk tweeter
Phoenix gold-Aluminum Plated Injection Molded Polypropylene Cone, Ferro-fluid Filled Neodymium Motor
Personally I would go with the Db521, if the silk tweeter was treated correctly then you will have nice, clean, & pleasant highs at louder volume. But, if the silk twetter is not of high quality then it really becomes a toss up. So my first choice would be the Polk Audio as you will get a better sound quality out of the speakers vs the sharp accents you will see with the Phoenix gold. That is my $0.10.
Re: time to upgrade the highs
i got the polk audio ones, not installed yet but i did hook em up and the first thing i knowtised is that they have less lows coming out of them then the stock 4", but the highs sound alot clearer, but that might be caz i tested em in free air and not in the door.
gata make wood spacers for em tomorow and they will get installed next weekend 8)
Thanks for helping me make up my mind boys :!:
